Sweat-drenched sheets, several nights a week

Me, that is.

It's been going on for 10 years, so not menopause. Could be because I'm on ADs?
I mentioned it to GP the other day and she referred me for chest X-ray. Why?

Anyone else suffer from this, or know why it happens?

In very, very rare cases it can be because you have TB....but DO NOT PANIC. I bet you anything it isn't. My BILs GP did the same with him, and he didn't have TB.

dh has always done this, its a sort of family thing. My ds does it too!

SixKindsofCrisis · 07/09/2007 09:17

Oh yes, I did wonder if GP was thinking of the old Consumption! But I'm not panicking about that as can't really believe that well-nourished, non-poet-in-a-garret-or-tramp like me could have TB.
Interested in your idea that it's a family thing as my sister is night sweaty too.

My ds2 is NOT night-sweaty, but he is so used to my drenched sheets that when he had an accident in bed a couple of times over the summer holidays (bcs of being too shattered to wake up and go to loo), he said in the morning, wearily, 'Oh, I was terribly sweaty in the night.'
He wouldn't tolerate any denial that his wet bed was due to persiration.

I get this too. Sometimes have to change pjs three times a night. I'm not worried because I've always been like it.

SixKindsofCrisis · 07/09/2007 09:35

..ah, hence your name! I've just bought some pjs bcs it will be easier to change them than change the sheets! But it's still too summer-like for me to countenance wearing them. I often wake up and have to turn the duvet over. Dh is very tolerant.
Gosh, three times a night, poor you! I got one nice pair of pjs -- should probably have bought half-a-dozen cheap sets.

I think I'm just very bad at moderating my body temperature. During the day I frequently get so cold I can't feel my fingers and toes, but as soon as I get under a duvet I'm in a sweat within half an hour!

fleacircus · 07/09/2007 09:43

Is it every week? I get this for several nights around the start of my period. Have to get up and change, and DP calls me 'vinaigrette' because I smell acidic in the morning. Charming.

LaCod · 07/09/2007 09:43

ah
i foudn mn through night sweats post natally
wiht me it was hormonal

fakrign terrible tho
id o have sympathy

pyjamaqueen · 07/09/2007 09:45

Definitely worse around the time of my period.

foxinsocks · 07/09/2007 09:46

yeah, I got this and it was hormonal too. It is awful.

Can't help with the causes - but make sure your pjs are cotton (and that sort of egyptian cotton not jersey cotton) and the same for the sheets etc.

LaCod · 07/09/2007 09:51

mine was ot do wiht breast feeding
iad haev to change pjs several times a night

Brangelina · 07/09/2007 09:51

Me too leading up to my period. I just try to wear a light tshirt and obv no duvet.

SixKindsofCrisis · 07/09/2007 09:55

Oh, yes me too worse around period. And started post-natally, like you Cod. But can post-natal persiration go on for 10-12 years?

OP posts:
suwoo · 07/09/2007 09:58

I had it terribly at the end of pregnancy and a fair few weeks after (maybe 10) I have just noticed a return although not as bad, but I am currently on a period and hadn't really connected the two things. I too smell a bit vinegary, like Flea, particularly my hair

pyjamaqueen · 07/09/2007 10:02

It's been at least that long for me SixKinds.

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 11:00

Sweating around the time of your period is because your core temperature is raised.

I don't know the answer to the OP, though. It does sound like it could just be in-built, so to speak.

LaCod · 07/09/2007 11:22

10 years is a joke not to be treated

when i had puenumonia i have terribel sweats( and this was after ds2s bith he was about 6 weeks) horrendous
then i collapsed( hollywood stlye of course) so he snet me to hosp.

but yet i still got them wiht ds3 wihtout penumoonia

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 11:50

Yes, I got them when I had pneumonia, which I nearly died from, but that was to do with the fever.

You having sweats, like you say is probably down to hormones, but it getting worse during periods or starting during periods and ending when periods stop, is because the core temperature rises when on period.
