I get that sometimes. It grows out with the nail

Could be blood, could be a fungal infection or it could be skin cancer. I’d suggest going to your doctor.

Sounds like a splinter hemorrhage caused by a trauma to the nail

NHS info:

Dark streaks under the fingernail that are about 1 to 3mm in size are usually splinter haemorrhages. These are lines of blood caused by tiny damaged blood vessels. Just a few splinters under 1 nail is nothing to worry about and is most likely a result of the nail being injured.

But if a few nails are affected, these splinters may be a sign of another condition, such as:

lupus (a long-term condition that causes inflammation of the joints, skin and other organs)

psoriasis (a skin condition that causes red, flaky, crusty patches of skin covered with silvery scales)

endocarditis (an infection of the heart valves)

It's a splinter hemorrhage - just a tiny bleed under your nail. You only need to worry if you suddenly get loads of them, or they don't grow out with your nail.

I always have them on fingers and toenails, but don't have any reason for them (I had a scan to check for endocarditis years ago when a rheumatologist got very excited) - I bruise and bleed very easily so it is probably to do with that.

Thanks for the replies, I'll keep an eye on it and if it gets an bigger ill go to doctor, feel silly going for a tiny mark.
