Gustatory Rhinitis

This started about 4-6 weeks ago and only happened when I was eating (obvs!). Unpleasant but manageable as it was only once a day, at our family meal in the evening, 8 o'clockish.

So not hayfever.

It had been clearing up over the last week to 10 days, to the extent that I thought it was over, but last night, while reading in bed at gone midnight, my nose suddenly started streaming and it hasn't really stopped since. I can't do anything without stuffing some rolled up tissue up each nostril, otherwise I simply have to blow/wipe my nose - this is not blow, have a minute, blow again, this is constant running.

Worse! I have turned into a mouth-breather!!!Grin

I have taken an anti-histamine (bought today). I have never had hayfever before (I'm 61), but if it were hayfever, why would it only have struck when I was eating for weeks, and now changed to all the bloody time!

I'd say it can't be gustatory rhinitis if it's now happening outside of you eating. Has it been diagnosed as that? Also it's usually only triggered by spices, spicy food, garlic, ginger etc

I'm suffering with early hayfever for the first time in years. Nose running to ridiculous degrees and it feels like I'm coming down with a cold weekly - but it's not a cold!

I'm also now allergic to flowers which I've worked out are triggering me if I sit too close to them for any length of time. It's driving me mad and I'm on two AHs a day.

Might be worth a drs appointment and keeping a diary to see what's setting you off.

Thanks, Crocodile, I'll be trying to get an appt.

I've never been allergic to anything before, so it's a bit weird. I am taking AH once a day now and it's helping. I have a chilli plant and some basil in the kitchen, but otherwise nothing floral indoors. Maybe it's the cats bringing imperceptible bits of pollen in. I'll chat to the doc.
