Go to your local pharmacist - they can sell you some banana-flavoured liquid that the whole family can take (unless you have a small baby). It's much less hassle than headlice, though you do have to be careful about washing sheets and underwear, and cut fingernails short, to prevent re-infection.

Hulababy · 06/09/2007 20:31

Tablets over the counter I believe. You do need to treat the whole family though as they are very easy to pass on. And you need to be methodical about cleaning, towels, clean bedding and PJs, etc for a little while too/

You no longer have the horrid pink pripsen stuff, fortunately for our children.

Don't worry. They are not dirty or gross. Very commin apparanntly. There are loads of threads on them on here.

My kids got them when I was pg so the wholw family got treated right away with tablets from chemist, but I couldn't cos of bein pg! Felt so gross! Still can't take any cos bf my Ds butluckily didn't seem to catch them, never had syptoms anyway. But will be straight down the chemist to get some just in case whenever I stop bf! You also have to wash all bedding, towels etc, be extra strict about washing hands, and try not to share towels. Don't worry, treatment works fast, but you do all have to take the tablets, including recent vistors to your house!

Oh god im going to have to tell his playschool as that likely where he got them from, i hope they don't tell the other parents it was him that had them! oh i feel icky even after showering!!!!!!!!!!

The tablets are Vermox. Orange flavoured chewable and small (thankfully).

I'd rather deal with nits any day!

I had to tell dp he would have to take them after we'd only known eachother a couple of weeks

Charlee · 06/09/2007 20:49

Yes my dp although has been in this family for 5 years is still looking at me in disgust

Pripsen powders for under 2s which is pink and horrid but mixing with weetabix was hte best solution. Ovex tablets or medicaine for over 2's.

All available at pharmacy - although we struggled to get the pripsen for DD3 so had to shop around.
