How can I have had a verucca for almost 20 years

This may be quite long for a verucca post but please hear me out 🙏🏼

Back when I was a teenager, my friends and I would share shoes (3 of us). One of them had a verucca which we all ended up catching. The two other girls ended up with loads of them.

I got maybe one or two. Theirs disappeared as quickly as they came but over the years, I just got more. I only ever had them on one foot and had a large one, surrounded by a couple of smaller ones and one or two on my big toe. I tried everything you can think of.

Picking them
Stabbing them
Vinegar pads overnight 🤢
Thunja
All the over the counter treatments
Banana skin
Duct tape
Some silver pen thingy and so on

I had them for about 15 years and the fuckers wouldn't die. In the end, I resigned myself to the fact that I was never going to be able to treat myself to a pedicure.

During those years, my partner and two of my kids caught them from me, each of them had one verucca and they went within months if that.

One day, mine disappeared after all those years. I was chuffed.

I had about a year being free of them, before one raised its ugly head on my big toe. By this point, I had been diagnosed suddenly with a brain tumour. I assumed I must have picked it up from the hospital showers as my immune system would have been weakened after my surgery.

I had just won a reflexology session in a raffle but told the lady I couldn't take it as I had a verucca. The lady knew me and what had happened and she asked whether it was on my big toe, I said yes, and she said the big toe is linked to the brain. Now, I don't know about all that, but I don't understand why in the last 20 years, I have only had approx 1 year verucca free when everyone else seems to shake them more quickly.

It's over 5 years since the verucca returned and this time, it hasn't spread or got any bigger but it's still there all the same 🤬

Does anyone know why I would have them for so long?

And do I hold the record for the longest owner of a verucca?

I had just the one for 17 or 18 years. Had every treatment going. Bar cutting it out, which the doctors wouldnt do. I gave up. And then one day it disappeared.

No idea but I have one on my big toe that has been there years. Should I be worried.

Its a virus isnt it? I guess you've just never got the virus out of your system and it pops up when you're unwell.

I had one for 16 years. Tried everything. Everything.

Went in holiday and all of a sudden it just wasn't there anymore. No mark left behind or anything. Just disappeared.

It’s a virus that remains dormant in your body. You may have removed it from the site, and it could have returned when your immune system was low.

That does make sense about it flaring you when my immune system is weak, it's just strange that I'm on a year of chemo which destroys the immune system and yet it hasn't got any worse.

Though, as long as the chemo kills the tumour, I'll gladly take feet covered in verucca instead 🙏🏼

What strange little things they are. The way they POOF as if by magic when they've had enough.

I think I might work on boosting my immune system to see if that makes a difference!

I hope the chemo goes ok for you. I had a massive cauliflower veruccas on my big toe, that spread to my finger (spread by picking at it with a tiny cut?) and 3 standard black dot type. The black dot ones were there for about 5 years, and then joined by the cauliflower one for about 3. No idea if it was my immune system or hacking at the big one with scissors in the bath (not advised!) that worked in the end.
I have a friend who had chemo who was delighted with the side effect of her veruccas departing so that might happen??

OP. I have had a verruca for over 20 years. I still have pedicures. I just put a tiny plaster over it. My beauty therapist always says thank you for covering it up. I get the feeling that they see lots of uncovered ones!!!

Can you not go and see a chiropodist? I had a stubborn verucca and one visit to a chiropodist to have it frozen off sorted it. That was 20 years ago and it hasn’t returned.

Are you absolutely sure that's what it is? I've had one for six years - or so I thought - till I saw a podiatrist for something else and he mentioned it was a plantar wart. Looks almost identical but not a verruca!

Frwwzimg doesn't always work, I had it done 3 times, so painful, no success.

I had one for years. Saw a podiatrist who said it can take multiple treatments to get rid of them in adults. Took about 4 to get rid of mine I think. She said it could come back at some point as the virus is still in your system, same as with cold sores.

Get referred by your GP to a podiatrist. I had a stubborn one for years and a wart on my finger. Podiatrist put some kind of crystal on my foot. It was incredibly painful, but after 4-5 sessions it dropped off and so did the wart on my finger. He said sometimes you need to do something drastic to get your immune system to kick in.
