I am looking to get this for my family and I. This may sound like a stupid question but I know pre-existing conditions aren't covered but does that mean any medical care for said condition will be NHS only? Thank you.

It won't be covered by the insurance, but you could still pay for private cover yourself - - or get NHS treatment

You can get cover for pre existing conditions. My husband has just changed jobs and the new private health insurance have said it covers everything. Pre existing or otherwise

Cover via employers includes pre-existing conditions. Hence there are no tests/checks. When you go solo, pre-existing conditions (last 5 years) normally are not included.

You can search for ones which will cover you (more expensive) or take a chance & pay for treatment yourself if the situation arises. You can also go for a new policy (new insurer) in 5 years if the condition does not surface - then it will be included next time.

There are two main forms of underwriting for private health insurance...

  • Full medical underwriting - whereby you declare everything and you tend to have pre-existing conditions excluded

  • Moratorium - which is where you can get cover for pre-existing conditions but you need to have been free of advice, tests, symptoms etc for two clear years after taking out the policy.

Theee are also lots of different types of policies so depending on what you're looking for, you will probably find it. For health insurance though, you really need to shop around and, if you can afford it or find a free service, do take advice as it's more complicated than other types of insurance.

That said, if I had the money, I'd take it out in a heartbeat - having had it and used it extensively in the past, it's really worth it.

Is there an excess to pay for Axa ppp claims?

Report

Like other insurances, you choose your excess which impacts your premium... higher excess, lower premium
