So I know whether I am overreacting or not.

Appropriate medical advice has been sought.

I’m not an expert so wouldn’t like to say but you can download an app to check moles apparently?

Batshittery Fri 14-Feb-20 19:24:08

Def needs to be looked at. Hope all is ok

scochran Fri 14-Feb-20 19:27:15

Whose is it had how long has it looked like that?

Elieza Fri 14-Feb-20 19:36:22

Sorry OP but that looks like something you should get checked out next week ASAP.

It could be the photo makes it look worse than it is. But get on to your GP. Even just to put your mind at rest.

Dont dawdle get an appointment sorted first thing when the gp opens.

Definitely worth checking out ASAP

Thanks for the replies.

It is DP, it used to just be a normal mole that was ever ever so slightly raised and a light brown colour then last week he noticed it had gone like that, almost doubled in size, gone that colour, itchy, bleeding etc.

I'm not usually a worrier but I am sick with worry over this. Everyone who has seen it has said it looks like melanoma.

He has been to the GP who has fast tracked him to dermatology and he has an appointment next week.

I was just looking to see if I was overreacting or not!

Well the app did NOT put my mind at ease.

Actually worried sick and like I said, I'm not usually a worrier over health things.

DP is only 30, not exactly sun worshipers, no sun beds etc. I know none of that really matters but still.

If you have a dermatology appointment then you are doing te right things. They will probably remove and biopsy it. Ask how long for results to come back, if it's a long wait can you go private? In my experience thet remove it fast but results are slow.

It’s good that you’re getting it checked. My mum had an itchy bleeding mole removed and it turned out to be nothing. My mums aunt did have melanoma but it was removed with no further treatment needed and she lived to 98! Hard I know but not to worry too much. Xxx

FET2020 Fri 14-Feb-20 21:24:23

I’ve also had two moles removed that looked dodgy and was ok in the end. Always best to check these things out though x

The thing is, it has clearly been scratched and has some blood under the surface of it so it is hard to see what the mole itself would be like without the irritation and swelling.
Try not to worry. I have had two removed on fast track appointments at the melanoma clinic- both nothing to worry about. The fact that the GP has referred him is nothing to be concerned about - that is the protocol for anything they can not be sure about and given the inflammation they could not be sure what it actually looks like, what is mole and what is irritated, inflamed skin.
