Is anyone else here wondering about how tourist travel will be affected? We are due to go to Japan in the Easter holidays but I'm wondering if that might not end up being possible.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I think you will just have to keep an eye on the particular international situation. It is still early days, and Japan should be able to contain any further imported cases.

We are due to go to Thailand and Malaysia this summer and I have underlying health conditions so am watching it. Not that much can do though. Hopefully will be sorted before then and currently numbers outside mainland China are low.

I've checked the situation with our insurance and am covered for cancellation but only if FCO advice goes to don't travel and stays that way until 48 hours before departure. Otherwise £2.5k of non-refundable things booked. I'm a bit worried by AirAsia putting temperature checks on all flights, can understand it but don't want to end up stranded somewhere. At this stage not too concerned as plenty of time and numbers relative to population are miniscule.

Talking of the same boat, feel sorry for those quarantined on that cruise. DH has a colleague in his team who went to Wuhan for Chinese New year and not allowed back as she's Chinese with work permit, must be pretty grim for her.

We are in the same situation re Japan at Easter - a very expensive trip all paid for. We won't get our money back unless the advice is do not travel so currently watching keenly.

@Ontopofthesunset - any further thoughts on this? Museums and schools closed until the end of March apparently, which might well continue into April. It could be a quiet holiday!
