I can't tell from the photo but I had it and it was agony everyone has different pain thresholds but I've given birth without pain relief three times and I'd do that again than have it Envy. For me I noticed there was white liquid inside the hole and it was hot my jaw ached and was red hot and tingly, the pain travelled from my jaw to my head to my neck it was excruciating I couldn't eat or drink anything. I think it also had a scent I can't remember now Confused

What @frasersmummy said.

The difference is like going from 100% health to full-on flu.

I don't think so, just healing? You'd know if it was dry socket, there's no pain like it! Don't wash it out too vigorously, and keep an eye on it. But I think it looks ok. It will hurt, but just take paracetamol.

That's what mine looked like but the pain was disgusting by the time I did get in to the dentist he said it had started to heal on its own try rinsing with salt water but not to much.

I’ve had a dry socket

As others have said. The pain in unreal. You can’t mistake it. A little bit of pain won’t be a dry socket

My breath smelt rotten too.

If you have to ask then no- definitely
Not!! It’s bloody agony.

No. That looks fine. Leave it alone. Stop looking at it, stop taking pictures. You've had surgery, it will be sore. If it's so sore you can't carry out your normal life, go get help.

Did you follow all of the guidelines for aftercare, if so then probably not.

Have you taken pain relief?

Looks fine.

I think it looks pretty good as far as sockets go. Gentle rinsing with salt water no more than 3 times a day.

Mrsmorton Just out of interest, where would you go for help?

Out of hours G.P or a Pharmacist at the weekend?

Im having one out in a couple of weeks on a Friday and worrying

I will look after it though Halo

I bitterly regret not looking after them years ago, I saw the hygienist last week and she said "But you are looking after them now"

It still didnt make me feel any better Sad

Out of hours dentist > pharmacist > GP in my out of date experience. Dry socket doesn't manifest until 3+ days later anyway so a Friday isn't a bad day.

Looks ok .
It would look like a black hole .
It would smell bad . You would be in severe pain ( worse than toothache).

I agree with others that if it was a dry socket you wouldn’t need to ask.

When I had one I would have sliced half my face off to get away from the pain.

I recently had dry socket after an extraction and when I tried to gently clean it with a cotton bud pus came out of the gum 🤢🤮 it started on Friday night and even though I had pain meds every 4 hours I could have killed myself to relieve the pain it was chronic and my pain threshold is high.... funny thing is it didn't hurt before extraction. Confused

Nope that’s a clot, don’t prod or poke it with your tongue, if you dislodge it that will give you a dry socket.

From the photo it looks like its healing very healthily for two days post-extraction :)

Can I slightly hijack to ask a question? I had an upper pre molar out six days ago, formed a nice clot etc but as of a couple of days ago the hole looks far deeper, is that normal? I made DH peer inside and he said he can't see bone or anything and it's not really sore, is that okay?

I have had my wisdoms out but it was years ago and I can't really remember how the healing went, other than it was straightforward.

Mrsmorton · 09/02/2020 11:26

It's probably normal. Just leave it alone. Stop
Looking at it unless it's so painful you can't sleep.
