Best laxative post groin hernia op?

DH is 36 hrs post hernia op and starting to feel uncomfortably constipated. I understand that any straining etc could do damage to the healing site. I missed the doctors round when he was discharged so couldn't and he was shy to ask about it.

I am going to the pharmacy now and will ask their recommendation but having had some great help and knowledge on my previous thread, anyone got on a view on best type of laxative post op for someone who is not very mobile at the moment? (I am also making sure he drinks water, have given some prune juice and pears)

Thank you

I have used both movicol and liquid paraffin (available from pharmacy for laxative use) post abdominal surgery but my surgery was not hernia. Liquid paraffin is good on its own and has no side effects. Movicol is also one of the milder laxative but some people get bloating but that is rare. Both laxatives are very effective and are gentle than harsher laxative like senna and bescodyl.

I suffer chronic constipation due to a bowel condition. I’ve tried everything and Milk of Magnesia is a god send!

Laxido, which in my experience has a gentle effect rather than urgent, or if they cannot give you that Fibrogel ( not sure if that’s how you spell it).
Both are citrus flavoured drinks.
Hope he feels better.

Look into getting a 'squatty potty', although in the interim, a few bricks or those little stools kids use to stand at the sink and wash their hands. Sitting on a toilet seat makes the bowel go into an S shape, and makes it FAR harder to open the bowels. Squatting, or at least lifting the legs up when sitting on a 'normal' toilet, can help a great deal by straightening the bowel out. I was terribly constipated when pregnant, and this was the only thing (along with chia seeds, extra water, prune juice etc) that helped. Look it up to get an idea of what I mean.
