Advice needed about pain killers

So long story short, I'm on the waiting list to have a tooth out at the hospital because it's decayed thanks to a botch job at a previous dentist and my immunity to the numbing agent when I've had fillings in the past. However, this tooth is incredibly painful and I've got a wisdom tooth coming through on the same side which is pushing on the nerve of the already painful tooth.

I'm taking pain killers regularly but these are now starting to not work. I'm losing sleep as I get woken up in the night in so much pain and the pain killers aren't working when I take them.

Anyone have any advice that I can do to soothe the pain at night as I am really starting to feel the lack of sleep in the day and I'm knackered when I normally cope well with early mornings.

What painkillers are you taking?

Ibuprofen and paracetamol in rounds. Every two hours but they don't work anymore. I think my body has become immune to them.

Have you tried putting anbersol directly on the tooth to try and numb from that direction ?

Go to the pharmacy and get Co-Codamol. instead of the Paracetamol. Its codeine and paacetamol combined and very good.

Pack area with sea salt. It draws out the fluid in the inflammation and reduces pressure on the nerve

@notapizzaeater yep tried that, tried numbing the gums around the area, have orajel on hand as that worked on the other wisdom tooth but not working on this side.

@bigusBumus I've been suggested co-codamol by family members but I worry as I need to drive so don't want it to knock me twice and I won't be able to drive to work.

Co codomol shouldn't knock you out. I second Paramol. It's a stronger painkiller, paracetamol based and doesn't cause any drowsyness in my experience

Any drugs with codeine are not advised to be taken for more than 3-4 days due to addiction. Have you asked the dentist or a pharmacist for advice. Sometime a drug like voltarol might work. It's a stronger anti inflammatory.

I've spoken to the dentist and he said to take codeine for when it's really bad and he's advised them to move the removal forward. It's not great at the moment as I am suffering from Vertigo so I'm feeling double sorry for myself.

If you're going to try something stronger I'd also suggest Paramol rather than co-codamol. Easier to handle in my experience!
