Was I dreaming or did I have a seizure in my sleep?

Last night I was in bed asleep, I’m unsure if this was a dream or not but I felt my left foot shaking, it was against my partner leg (he sleeps to the left of me) he was also fast asleep! After my left leg started shaking a few seconds later my right leg did then both my arms and then my back tensed up and my head went backwards and was shaking too! I tried to wake my partner but I couldn’t do a single thing. Strange noises were coming out but just noises. I then remember thinking I was laying on my kitchen floor and trying to take myself up to prove to myself I was in bed and when I tried to wake up I couldn’t move my body was paralysed and all I could do was open and move my eyes to look around the room but i felt unusually out of it and tried and instantly fell back asleep, I woke up some time later on and told my partner about it. He said he didn’t feel anyhing but has been on strong painkillers and was fast asleep anyways. This was 12:30am. I went back to sleep very cautious about what had happened and I’ve woken up with such a headache! I never get headaches.

Was I just dreaming ? Or could I have had some sort of a seizure? I’m in my 20’s and this hasn’t happened Before so it’s a very strange one!

Hi, I have epilepsy and have tonic Clonic seizures as well as partial and absence seizures . I have dreams where I am having a seizure and am fully aware I’m having them, I told my nurse and when they did a scan overnight , it picked one up and I was having one . I’ve never met anyone else who’s experienced that before until I read your post ! If it happens again I’d speak to the dr . Did you feel overtired ?

But at the time when I woke up just afterwards I don’t even know what was happening but I couldn’t move at all except my eyes then I just fell back asleep and Iv no idea how long for until I woke up and my partner work up for a drink and I told him. No I don’t have epilepsy or at least Iv never been diagnosed with anyhing of the sort and this is it first ever time of having anyhing like this

I’d call your GP and tell them what has happened you may need to have a scan and they can ask you some more questions . Take care ! X

That sounds very much like sleep paralysis to me. I've had it loads of times

Sounds like sleep paralysis to me too. I’ve had 1 episode ... it was the most scary thing I’ve ever encountered in my life. Mine felt like I was having a stroke but I couldn’t move or shout, was completely paralysed. It was extremely upsetting, the most horrendous thing I’ve ever encountered. GP was like ‘meh, it was sleep paralysis, it’s fine’. I hope I never ever have it happen again, it really was traumatic.

I would avoid driving until you have seen the GP, just in case.
