Pill - 45 years old. Constant bleeding (not spotting)

I'm on the pill (combined). I've taken it for 25 years apart from two pregnancies (both planned).

Over the last three months, I've taken the pill, as normal, with my coffee in the morning. I have bled consistently. It's not like a full period, but like a light period. It certainly couldn't be described as 'spotting' though.

I have no idea what could be causing it, I've googled it but not really got much info. Could it be something to do with being peri-menopausal?

Could it be a sign of something more sinister?

I'm planning to go to the doctor as soon as I get a chance/appointment but was just hoping someone out there could give me some ideas.

I'd rather not come off the pill just yet if I can help it, although every time I've been to the dr over last couple of years (not even about period/pill things), he's tried to persuade me to come off it because of my age (45). This is probably why I've stalled going this time because I'm pretty sure he will insist I come off it if I'm having problems with it!

Thanks

I have this sort of bleeding when not on contraception. I either don't bleed for months at a time, or I don't stip bleeding for months on end. Currently it's been going on since early December. I had blood tests, swabs and an ultrasound (external and internal IIRC) a couple of years ago, with nothing untoward found.

I've heard/read online that it can be perimenopause, but as you probably have found out, it can be other things. It's absolutely worth having it checked out. For them to get my bleeding to stop I ended up having to take norethisterone the last time, as the normal contraceptive pill couldn't do it.

Thanks Grucius. Do you mind me asking how old you are?

I'm 33, but although young, my mother went through premature menopause in her late 30s, and she has family history of (very) early menopause. So it wouldn't surprise me if it's down to this.

It sounds awful. Does the northisterone work well for you?

Yes, it works very quickly, within a couple of days. I've not taken it this time purely through not wanting to go to the doctor again 😅 It will probably come to it soon though.
