Should I be switching dc to semi skimmed milk?

DS (6.6) and DTs (3.8) all drink at least 1.5 pints of full fat milk per day, is this ok or should I be switching to semi skimmed milk? Its not the fat content I am worried about but is there any other reason I should change?

As far as I know under 5's should be on Full Fat

You can change to S/S after 2 if you want

But I'd wait until the little one is older and swop them both at the same time

Fullfat is even OK for adults - unless they have a cholesterol problem (afaik)

DD would be on FF apart from the fact that she has asthma & the fat makes her chest worse

No - they need the fat to grow and develop

dts would be easy to swap as I often add water to thier milk if I am running low, but ds knows If I have only added a tiny anount of water, and blows a tantrum.

There is more calcium, pint for pint as you reduce the fat - skimmed has more than semi, which has more than full fat. The kids need the fatty acids though but I think you can swap at 2 also (if needed)

I am happy to keep them on full fat, was just a bit concerned at the amount they drink, often its over 2 pints a day each.

It's quite alot, but as long as they're eating healthily and not gaining too much weight (from the sheer calorie levels from 2 pints of full fat) I wou;dn't worry. I seem to remember that I drank about that much milk until I was well into my teens (I was a complete stick though!)
