Noticed a lump last Friday that got more painful and swollen over the weekend. Went to the doctor in Monday for a 2 minute appointment and he said I had an abscess. Put me on Flacloxcilin for a week. Seemed to get worse over past few days so went back today. Told me it look redder and added amoxicilin to the mix as I have now developed a skin infection too!! Such bad luck! If no improvement by Monday I need to go a&e for iv antibiotics and have it lanced. Trying my best to use heat to get it to drain naturally as the thoughts of having it lanced terrifies me! Its so painful, feels like pain all down my arm and hand. Familiar pain starting in other armpit so praying there isnt another on the way. Has anyone had similar experiences and what was the outcome?

Good grief! They should be putting sterile gloves on after they've rooted around in drawers/bags etc. I suggest you call their attention to that as it's easy for an open wound to become infected or cross-infected.
Please think about honey before the dressing goes on.. Or partly remove the dressing when you get home, apply a thin layer of honey and stick the removed dressing back on - might need a steristrip or two to refix it.
Alternatively, you could ask them to apply medihoney after they've flushed out the cavity or buy some yourself - it's readily available on eBay and Amazon. Fwiw, I used the same honey I put on my toast.
