How would you take this?

Hi all.

First off I am most likely being really silly, but health anxiety doesn't help. So please forgive me if I am.

Last Wednesday I went to bed at around 11pm. I always go to the toilet before I go to sleep. I was woken around 1am with the most horrendous pain and urgency to wee. I was in agony. Weeing tiny amounts, many many times. Saying it hurt puts it lightly. When I wiped it was a little pink, but no obvious blood (I am not on, nor am I due). It was awful and the pain continued and I only managed to get some sleep after taking paracetamol and ibuprofen.

I called the doctors to try and get an appointment. Told them my symptoms and because it was pink when I wiped it was recommended I see a doctor. If course I couldn't get in either Thursday or Friday.

I know I could have gone to the urgent care centre over the weekend, but I didn't. I was thinking this is a UTI without a doubt and just drink loads, take pain relief and it will go on its own. I have a young child so didn't want to drag him with me and have to wait where there will be lots of illness. Unfortunately, Sunday night was really bad. All in my back and my tummy feeling full and really nauseous. I managed to get an appointment at my GP on Monday morning. I took a urine sample with me, as I say was/am convinced it's an infection. He absolutely bollocked me for taking urine in but tested it anyway. I had no idea it wasn't allowed as doctors have tested it in front of me before. Anyway he said there is absolutely no sign of infection or blood in my urine so has no idea why I am experiencing all symptoms of an infection. He asked for another sample to send off to the lab and gave me a 3 day course of antibiotics to see if it helped. Well course is over, and though my back pain has eased, my pain when peeing hasn't. In fact today it's been terrible.

I called the doctors on the off chance my results were back. They were and she read out,

'' antibiotics already started. Retest in a week''

I asked if this means I do actually have an infection. She said she can't see from the notes that an infection has been found, just that a retest is needed next Tuesday.

So, now I'm panicking a little. How would you take it? Is there an infection? But surely they would say yes? My heads telling me to need a retest, my urine has showed something and I can't help it, I have started worrying.

Any thoughts are welcome xx

I'm convinced that my urine hasn't come back quite right hence him wanted to retest. What I can understand is why they said it didn't say there was an infection present. Got a bloody week of worrying now

Can you explain what it is you’re worried about specifically? A UTI is easily resolved and not sinister. What else are you concerned about?

I get this all the time when an infection hasn't grown but I've reported symptoms. It's never meant anything other than that there was no infection found but they wanted to double check nothing was "brewing".

I really wouldn't panic. For anything really serious, they'd be recalling you and retesting much more quickly (sadly I have experience of that; too!)

Yeh he dipsticked it twice and no infection was detected which is why he asked for a further sample to be sent off to be tested.

Sorry for sounding really naive. Wouldn't cystitis have show in the urine sample?

Thanks for all your comments. I have a massive fear of serious health issues not being found until its too late. When the receptionist said he wanted a retest in a week but no infection detected it just sent my mind into overthinking that something must have come back unusual

What is likely is that your results have come back saying there is infection there, the results state which antibiotics your infection is sensitive to and if you are on the right ones then usually we would write variations of 'on right antibiotics' or 'antibiotics started retest in.....' or similar. Obviously I haven't seen yours specifically so can only offer generic advice. It absolutely does not sound anything to worry about. This is one of the reasons why getting results from receptionists isn't sometimes the best thing as it can instigate anxiety if not interpreted the right way. Please try not to worry x

Hiya.
I'm a week on now and still in pain. I am miserable. The pain of peeing this morning was horrendous. I handed a new sample in this morning so I am hoping to get some answers. The discomfort in my lower pelvic area now is horrible and I feel sick all the time. But my vagina really hurts :-( and it's been nearly 2 weeks now since it all started
