Why was I eligble for the flu vaccine?

I just went to the GP for an unrelated reason and she said apparently I'm eligible for the flu vaccine and she gave it to me for free. I didn't think to question why but I don't fit any of the criteria, have no illnesses, not overweight or pregnant etc. I'm 22. Is this a standard thing?

Something on their system must be flagging you as meeting the criteria somewhere. You would have to ask them.

Do you work in healthcare or social care? Do you have any chronic conditions like an underactive thyroid or asthma?

Coeliacs?

Literally no health issues. I've had benign tachycardia in the past but thats about it no chronic conditions. I don't work in any healthcare professions.

Are you a carer? Might just be the wrong button ticked on the computer.

I’m much older than you (43) and the same thing happened to me. No idea why

Why don't you just ask the surgery.

I got the same thing! No reason I can think of.

Do you work with kids? My sister gets one as she uses an inhaler but was told at work she would need to contact her GP and request one due to her profession as a nursery worker.

My doctor had me down as asthmatic, I actually had no idea that I'd been diagnosed as asthmatic in my teens 20 years earlier! Went for breathing investigations back then, but nothing came of it and they never said I might have asthma.

They have since confirmed that actually I am.

Sorry missed the relevance - being asthmatic made my eligible for the flu jab.

It'll be the cardiac issue. Untreated flu can cause tachycardia/worsen an underlying condition.

I was going to say the same thing. Proper influenza is a very serious illness and could trigger that benign tachycardia into being serious with a raging temp can come a raging heart.

A racing heart I should say!

@cptartapp @raspberrymolakoff Ahh I see thankyou! My heart does beat a lot faster when I'm ill
