I've got a virus but what is it??

Sunday and yesterday I've had spells of bursting into flames followed by intense shivering. I was sent home from work yesterday as took myself to the GP. I have a temperature. Doc checked ears, throat, chest, urine which are all clear. I told him I have a pain in my upper left abdo/rib/boob area which he examined and didn't seem fussed by. Sunday night I could barely sleep because I was so hot but last night I slept like a baby. I've had my flu jab! Is there something going round??!

Do you have a cough? I’d be worried in case it’s a lung infection if some sort.
I had pneumonia (no cough) and my symptoms started out as extreme shivering and high temp with a chest pain.
GP missed it twice until I collapsed and ended up in hospital.
Do you feel very very ill?

Nope no cough or cold. GP said chest was clear. I don't feel really ill but I have health anxiety so I catastrophise.

How long ago did you have your flu jab in case it's a reaction?

@Oldmum55 I had it in October.

I think I'm just a bit of an oddball.

My papa went into the docs with the same and he ended up having an ulcer in his body somewhere (can't remember) please get checked op xx

There's a variety of flu (or similar virus) going around that isn't covered by the current flu jabs.

I've had it, my 90-year-old mum had it (with pneumonia), and we both had the flu jab.

Dont be alarmed into thinking this is something awful. It really desnt matter what the virus is, fact is your body has got to work it through. It is not relevant either that you feel so awful. Many viruses are diabolical. You need to rest and eat small healthy foods and listen to what your body needs. If you suddenlyy take a turn for the worse, or you dont begin to improve in a few days, then would be a time to considermore medical advice. A raised temperature feels awful but your body is fighting off the problem

OP, I have the same, it stopped for a couple of days, and then came back yesterday. My boob isn't as bd now, it's certainly a weird bug.
Was going to go to gp but thought I'd give it a few more days, it's horrible.

@Drabarni oh no I'm sorry you too. It's so weird. I don't do ill either; I don't know what to do with myself. I'm off work today but still on email as I feel guilty. Drinking lots and eating nibbles here and there. Due another dose of paracetamol soon.

My mil has it too, bless her, she thought she was going to die, thought she was having a heart attack with the upper body pain.
It truly is awful, some days you can cope with it and others it floors you with no warning.
We have no food in and have to get a shop today. Dh is working and I'm going to have to drag myself out in a bit at least for the essentials.
I hope you are better soon OP.
If the pain persists do see your gp though, I'm going tomorrow or Thursday if it doesn't improve more.

Yes GP yesterday said it should clear within 2-3 days so if still like this on Friday will go back

Going back to the GP on Friday if it hasn't cleared is a good idea. In the meantime Paracetamol, lots of fluids and rest. I hope you feel better soon.

Please don't do what I just did.
Walked into town as only 5 mins, even walking slowly.
Got some money out of cash machine folded it up and went into another shop for deodorant. Stood in line and a man said to an old lady next to me, have you dropped this money, it was folded up. The lady said no, I don't think so, looking in her purse.
I said oh, that's mine, I had a tiny purse with me and was under no doubt, until I got home with £50 more than I should have.
I'm feeling awful now, have cried. It's Tuesday and probably her pension.
Dh has said he'll buy extra and put in the foodbank later, but that's not going to help the old lady.
Get better before you try and buy the essentials.

Yeah I've been off work since the 28th December with it! Went to the doctors and she said she had lost count of how many people she's seen with it, it's nasty and viral and to ride it out basically
Mine started with a sore throat, now blocked nose, cough, incredibly tired and just generally feel crap

I've had similar since early December!!!
Started off as chest infection got antibiotics. Then went down with flu aswell - or just chest infection kicking in , I don't know but it was truly awful . My temps weren't that high but never have I been so ill. Three lots of antibiotics and steroids for chest ( asthmatic) I started to feel better ( ie walk outside for five mins) just when my dear DF got it , he ended up in hospital all over Christmas with pneumonia and is convalescing at mine . Now I'm 5 weeks off sick and just really tired . My health anxiety was through the roof ! Going back to work soon ,
Go with it but get checked out again if feel worse . Loads of fluids ! Get someone to make you soup. Online shopping . Hope you feel betterThanks

I was actually not feeling too bad with chest infection which makes me think I had flu on top ...

A couple of days after my op I felt loads better, been back to work since. However, I'm ill again. Awful sharp pains in my ear, razor throat and my nose is the most blocked I've ever experienced. I've been having berrocca every day since illness 1 but can I really have two separate viruses in two weeks? I'm just drained.

Yeah it's rough isn't it . I think I had three separate things- I got checked by GP again last week and he said I'd just been unlucky . Sounds like you could have something else but tbh there's also something going around that just isn't going away!
