Staying with current GP surgery

Has anyone had experience in keeping with their current surgery but moving out of area?

The NHS website says to speak to your surgery but who at the surgery?
I can't think it needs to be a doctor - it's not a medical issue but do the receptionist have the right to authorise?

Also, what information do they need, other than a forwarding address? My surgery is near my job and my (soon to be) old address - is that all I do? Tell who ever I want to stay put because it's close to where I spend most of my days (at work!)

Ask the Practice Manager.

I am an out of area patient at my GP surgery, the only difference it makes is that I can't have home visits by my own doctors, if I was to need a home visit I would have to have a doctor from the 111 service.

Be prepared for them to say no if you do ask, practices dont have to takes you on/keep you if you don't live within their area.

Thank you @MrsJoshNavidi, I'll give them a ring. Did you book an appointment to see the practice manager or did you speak to them over the phone?

@Nat6999 this is really helpful, thanks. What sort of questions did they ask you and did you have to provide anything other than your new address?

Some might agree, most won't though.

No, I had to change my address as I had been registered under my mum's address but got a letter from the prescription pricing authority fining me for claiming free prescriptions because the address on my prescription & the one on my card didn't match. When I rang to sort that out I was told I had to change the address on my medical records. I just rang & gave them my new address, they just told me I was out of area & wouldn't get home visits.

I just called and updated my address, they said it wasn’t an issue as I was already registered with them. Didn’t speak to the practice manager.

I actually moved closer to my GP practice although I’m now technically out of their catchment area. I live practically down the road from them now so under the circumstances it probably didn’t make sense to remove me

I haven't actually done it myself OP, but the Practice Manager is in charge of all things admin, so would be the person to talk to.
