Finding a lump

Around a month ago I found a lump in the left side of my neck, put it down to maybe feeling a little run down and thought maybe it was my glands telling me that I was going to catch one of the dreaded illness' going around... But it's getting bigger, and more prominent. It doesn't hurt, isn't causing me any discomfort and otherwise I feel well, just sleep deprived with 3 children, one been a 6 month old baby who doesn't know what sleep is 😨😰 Anyone else experienced anything similar and have any advice?

Get yourself to your GP. Anything like that that’s still there after a month needs to be checked.

Is the lump moveable? Or is it quite fixed in place?

It's fixed in place, quite hard, almost like a pebble under the skin...

Definitely needs a GP appointment then. As soon as possible.

I know it's scary OP but book an appointment with your GP.
It could be glands or something. I once had a gold ball size lump in my armpit and it was glands such a scary time but make an appointment just to be sure.

Definitely GP appointment needed.

Not to frighten you but they will give you a 2 week urgent referral to the hospital. That doesn’t necessarily mean you have cancer or that they think you have cancer but it’s standard procedure when you have a neck lump that doesn’t disappear.

The NHS advice regarding lumps is:

See a GP if:

• your lump gets bigger
  
• your lump is painful, red or hot
  
• your lump is hard and doesn't move
  
• a lump grows back after it's been removed
  
• you have a lump in the breast or testicles
  
• you have a swelling on the side of the neck, armpit or groin that doesn't go down
  

Yours fits several of those criteria - it's on your neck, hasn't gone down, has grown, is hard and doesn't move.

I had this!!! I had it for months and months and it was a enlarged lymph node. Have you been through any trauma recently? Mine appeared after having an emergency c-section and was quite poorly. I would definitely get it checked out just to be sure.

I have enlarged lymph nodes in my neck - 2 to be precise and had them checked by a doctor both times. They’re still there but they were satisfied they were benign so I just have to keep an eye on them.

However they are very mobile and soft.

They will also ask you if you are experiencing night sweats and fatigue or sudden weight loss as these are concerning features with new lumps.

You’ll probably be referred for ultrasound and possible needle biopsy to be sure. It’s bloody scary but important. Good luck xx
