Ear infection/water in middle ear - experiences please

Just wondering what experiences others have had of ear infection/blocked middle ears and how long before they were better. Also, did it affect your hearing?

I had a cold a couple of weeks ago, ear infection three days in and eye infection six days in. Had seven days of antibiotics for the ear infection which I finished last Thursday. Saw nurse on Tuesday as I'm really struggling to hear - I'm ok on a one to one when someone is right in front of me, but can't hear in a room of people or when DH/DD chatting and TV is on, I can't follow either. Someone was running down the corridor at work earlier calling me, and I didn't have a clue. I'm bluffing my way through work at the moment, but luckily finished on Friday.

Anyway, apparently my left ear is still red, but as it's not bothering me too much we're going to see if it clears up on it's own. My right ear, which was the most painful originally, apparently had water bubbles in the middle ear.

Just wondering what other's experiences were. I know I should be patient and will probably be much better next week, but ...

Suffered with a really bad ear infection earlier this year. Had two different antibiotics which didn't work. They then sent off a swab and had another set of antibiotics which solved it. Took about 6 weeks for me to fully recover.
