I'm 13 weeks pregnant and before pregnancy had a very mild cat allergy which didn't generally bother me unless I let cats right near my face (I have 3) since being pregnant my allergy has gone NUTS, I'm awake gasping for air in the night because I can't breathe through my nose so it keeps my awake, then the second I move in the night to go the loo it rubs like a tap so u can't get back asleep! My heads permanently pounding too, is there anything at all I can take that's safe in pregnancy? I know this will pass because this is my fourth pregnancy (previously all losses) and when the pregnancy ends so does the allergy so rejoining isn't an option, I just need a safe remedy please??

saline nose spray (sterimar) is fine in pregnancy. have a word with your pharmacist about what else you can try.

Soccer babe thankyouuuuuu!! I'll go and get some of that from the chemist! 👍

666onmyhead, cat vacation sounds a wonderful idea, if it wasn't winter I'd make them live mainly outside! 😫

My DDis allergic to one of my sister’s cats. Not any other cat which is so weird. Anyway, my sister has this ‘air cleanse’ spray from pets at home that she sprays before my dd arrives and it’s made a big difference,

My obstetrician told me that I could safely take Piriton throughout my pregnancy.

She said that, while Piriton has never been officially tested on pregnant women, it has been in use for decades without reports of adverse effects in pregnancy.

Game changer! Life changing! What a difference it made!

Omg thank you for both the piriton and the room spray suggestions!! I went to the pharmacy earlier and they would sell me ANYTHING!! Then said they're on the shelf but I shouldn't buy them and go to the GP so I felt anxious then and left empty handed 🙄

Lord I hope these work I'm losing my mind and I'm NOT nice to be around

No, the pharmacist will not sell you Piriton if you say it's for yourself, precisely because its safety in pregnancy has not been confirmed by independent studies. I wonder whether your GP or midwife would prescribe it?

But also, please see if you can get my opinion confirmed elsewhere. I am not a HCP, merely an Internet stranger after all.

8 suffer from dreadful dust mite allergies, no way could I function without antihistamine. My GP prescribed them during both my pregnancies. That was 20 years ago, both my kids are very healthy.

Also do to your asthma nurse, an inhaler may help over night and they may have other options, I was offered a tablet that helps open the airway's bit unsure if you can have during pregnancy.

When I was pregnant I had the opposite - I lost my allergy to animals, unfortunately it can back worse!

Do you let your cats into your bedroom? If so, maybe change your pillow and not let them in there anymore.

We have family experience of severe cat allergies and when staying overnight at a cat owners, we found out the hard way that they did indeed let their cats roam free into all the bedrooms. The pillows provoked the worst allergy as obviously your face is directly on them!

A portable air purifier may help, it can't do any harm
