Random bruises keep coming up. PICS

For a few weeks now I've noticed I keep getting random bruises come up on my legs, no where else just me legs. I have no recollection of hurting or knocking myself and some of them hurt especially the one on my knee. I've scared myself to death googling and now I'm terrified to make a doctors appointment incase it's what doctor google said. Anyone ever experienced this?

P.s please take no notice of the hairs on my legs I've been growing them for a wax ConfusedBlush

GP stat.

Might be something straightforward and easily fixed eg with some vit supplements or iron.

If it isn’t, you’re in the right place.

I had this and it was low platelets, go and get checked out. May not be this but I would find out.

I think you will have to go to the GP, you may knock leg and not notice but it’s really hard to get that sort of bruise on a boney part like a knee without some injury. Be Brave!

Defo docs appointment. Prob just need some tablets or something to fix it but you can’t leave this. It’s blood leaking out into places it shouldn’t be. What happens if it happens somewhere that people can see like your face. Or internally. Please phone tomorrow as it’s getting hard to get appointments this time of year as everyone wants theirs before Christmas and there are lots of people with bugs. If you phone ASAP you have a better chance of being seen sooner.

Thank you all I know I need to be brave and just go. I'm thinking though if it was something bad the bruises would be other parts of my body and not just my legs?
@Akire I generally have not knocked and that's what's more worrying because it looks nasty. You'd expect a bruise to look that bad after a fall or something.

Just popping in to agree with pp, def worth getting checked out, they can tell all sorts from simple blood tests these days.

I had this a few months ago - only on my legs and I looked like I'd been beaten up!

Literally came up before my eyes and I was shitting myself, rang DH in tears.....

Doctors did every blood test they could think of and then some, all came back clear and in fact the GP said I was "extremely healthy".

The only explanation they could come up with was that it was a build up of steroids in my body from my preventer inhaler.

Deffo go get it checked though - I was seen by an emergency GP straight away and she was quite concerned when she first saw me

@FrangipaniBlue that is interesting as I take a steroid inhaler and had the same thing- the doctor didn’t say it could be that, but did do blood tests to rule everything out.

Snap! I had this and this is what the doctor said after loads of tests.

Do you take a ibuprofen for pain relief?- I started to get bruises when in a lot of pain with a frozen shoulder and taking nurofen regularly.

FrangipaniBlue · 05/12/2019 22:15

@Nishky the emergency GP I first saw didn't mention it at all, it was my own GP when I went back for the follow on appt.

I was also having night sweats.

Had 3 months off my preventer over summer and it all went away.

I'm back on it for winter as that's when my breathing is most affected so we'll see if any of it comes back! Smile

I was anaemic. Took on more iron and after 4-6 weeks no more easy bruising.

@FrangipaniBlue Jesus that looks awful! I too have been suffering with night sweats and read the side affects to my anti depressants (citalopram) and night sweats were one of them. I'm going to call the doctors tomorrow and get seen. Thanks everyone.

I got alot of unexplained bruises when taking sertraline - may be a side effect of citalopram too?

Report
Penhaligon · 06/12/2019 12:25

My bruises were caused by an under active thyroid too.

triballeader · 06/12/2019 12:47

Please get this checked if only for your piece of mind.
Hopefully your GP can sort this out for you.

Mine, added with other symptoms when put together, turned out to be from VonWilliebrands Type1.

I bruise like that too...also have an underactive thryroid, and a few years back had a series of blood tests after taking the bruises to the GP.

First one showed very low platelet levels but subsequently they returned to normal. GP seemed to think it was a few issues but had resolved
Auto immune/Hashimotos, low iron, bad dose of flu possible glandular fever

It's never been as bad as it was then so I haven't been back!

Thanks everyone I took the plunge and saw my doctor. Bruising is a side affect of citalopram but she wants to check my thyroid too, got to have my bloods taken on the 19th so fingers crossed.
