Found a growth in/coming from vagina - freaking the fuck out!

God knows how I haven't noticed this before, I just (well about another hour ago - been frantically googling - which wasn't much help - and pacing the floor since then) took out my mooncup and was giving myself a wipe, when I noticed a growth about the size of a pea (normal not petit pois!) protruding from my vagina - it's flesh coloured and completely painless (no sensation at all, can't even feel it when I give it an investigative squeeze). It can be moved about and seems to be attached to the vaginal wall about a cm up.

Obviously I'm now resigning myself to an early death from vaginal cancer. I'll of course be visiting to doc tout suite, but in the meantime if anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful - I don't think I'll be getting much sleep tonight!

I cannot offer any help but I'm here for moral support, if you've never noticed it before than maybe it's new so therefore what ever it is you've found it early. If you've had no other symptoms then hopefully it's something harmless.

Is it a swollen blood vessel? (Vulvar varicosities)

I guess it could be Natch - it's difficult as I can only see it in a mirror whilst precariously balancing my phone for light.

It could be a vaginal cyst. Most probably harmless.

Could it be a prolapse?

Elodie2019 · 05/12/2019 06:23

As running says. Bartholins cyst?.

Report
Vinosaurus · 05/12/2019 06:25

I thought prolapse but it's very localised to one small area - not hanging down from above if you see what I mean.

Aren't Bartholin cysts more around the Vulva?

Are you in a committed relationship? Could also be a genital wart.

I've been married since 2015 (and with DH since 2011) so I'd be asking some rather serious questions if it was!

From what I can gather from Dr Google they are much smaller and gather in groups. This is a larger, very smooth (like a pea) singular growth.

I’m not a doctor but a friend who has had cervical and vaginal cancer was told those growths feel grainy. It sounds like a cyst. Please go to the doctor.

Thankyou Plums - I'm going to queue up and try to get an appointment this morning.

I hope you did manage to get some sleep and are able to get an appointment today and get reassurance.

I have literally just had a smear and the results showed no abnormal cells, so am clinging on to the hope that something would have been picked up during that.

Thankyou Sunshine - I got a couple of hours so am now running on fumes, shame there isn't an off button on the back of your head!

Hi vinosaurus, I had a painless lump in the opening of my vagina around 3 years ago which turned out to be a benign cyst. From what you've described, it sounds similar to mine but I'm glad you're going to your GP.

I'm hoping the GP will see me whilst I'm still on my period (albeit the end of).

Sounds absolutely benign- vaginal cysts are fairly common

But good to get a check. And being at end of your period doesn’t matter one bit

Try not to panic I had this and it turned out to be basically gristle! Get checked over ASAP but try not to panic.

Gristle Mucky!? Blimey our bodies are - well I guess "meat" (which we basically are) are gristle go together. I would LOVE for it to be gristle.

I have no idea how to do a reply 😳 but yes the doctor said we are made of meat so sometimes there's gristle! It went away after about a year so try not to panic just yet x

Thanks Mucky - currently sitting in GPs waiting room.

Chances are much higher of it being something benign, and even if it isn't, it doesn't mean that it's not treatable.

Good luck today.

GP thinks it's a polyp that's grown from the remnants of my hymen and was very reassuring that it didn't look cancerous. She's referring me to gynae as it's basically getting in the way (I was wondering why my mooncup was so leaky recently).

She told me to go away and relax about it - so I'm going to try to do that ... and get some sleep 😴
