Blood in stool help!

Hi, I'm panicking a lot here, doctor just rang and told me I need to go for a camera as they have found microscopic blood in my poo. I also had various blood tests for alsorts but he said they're ok. I initially went to the doctor because of dizziness and virus symptoms which have now gone. Is the blood in poo serious? I've got health anxiety and at the moment t can hardly catch my breath since he rang me. I will be referred within 2 weeks.

I’m assuming you’ve been referred for a colonoscopy? It’s a really important procedure in helping diagnose what’s causing the blood in your stool.
Try not to worry, I know it’s easier said than done, but having the procedure will be the best way of diagnosing what’s wrong.

Yes my doctor rang me to say he's referring me. I'm so scared it's making me panic, I can't think straight Sad

Try not to panic, it could be something as simple as piles!! I’d make sure you ask for sedation when you have the procedure. Makes it a bit more bearable and you won’t be able to remember most of it.

Did you see fresh red blood in your poo or is your poo black?

I've had this many times and it turned out I had a tiny puncture on my colon wall that bled intermittently over years. Still does on occasion.

Try not to worry.

No I have t seen any blood in my poo. The doctor said it's microscopic. My poo is not black but just a normal colour.

As the others said - try not to worry. I had a colonoscopy at Dr's request. Nothing sinister found. The colonoscopy is not horrendous. The day or so before with special drinks is wearing!

I've had a kind of anxious feeling in my stomach for a few weeks which I have now and I've put it down to anxiety that's why I've been to doctors. But my poo looks normal.

Thanks for the reassurance, it's helping me a lot. I have small children so very scared and thinking the worse

Try not to worry. Is it just the routine test or do you have other symptoms too?

Black poo can mean a bleed higher up. It's old blood. Fresh blood can quite often mean haemorrhoids.

So if it's blood I can't see and my poo is a normal colour then that's a good sign?

Well microscopic means very little. Yes good sign but the doc is doing his job and making sure all hunky dory.

Thanks for your advice.

I'm just in a state and can't make sense of anything. I've got terrible health anxiety to make things worse so it's not helping me at all.

Do you have other symptoms OP? Perhaps we can reassure you as it could be lots of not too serious things. Best to get checked out though.

My dh has had bowel cancer. The fact your poo looks normal is a very good sign. It sounds like your doctor is being thorough so try not to worry.

I don't think reading stuff on the internet helps. You are a worrier so if I was your doc I would be ruling out an ulcer! Camera- do you mean endoscopy or colonoscopy?

I have anxious feeling in my stomach, sort of like butterflies or a nervous stomach but last week it went as I came on my period. So I've put that down to my age (45) and peri menopause. Today this has come back but again I think it could be anxiety. Yesterday I ate lots of vegetables, healthy eating pre Christmas and today bloated, smelly wind and uncomfortable but I do think that's my diet. Part from this I'm fine.

I've been referred for a consultation in 2 weeks to find out if I need they colonoscopy so it's just a worrying waiting game now.

Thanks for all your replies.

Have you've been taking ibuprofin or other anti inflammatories? They can cause stomach bleeding leading to blood in stools.
I took ibuprofin for a few days for joint pains, suddenly felt a bit queasy and vomited watery coffee grounds (partly digested blood from irritated stomach lining). If my stools had been tested there'd have been blood in them.
I stopped the tablets and was fine.

slartibarti Couple of weeks before all of this I was taking Ibuprofen for about a week because of headaches that paracetamol wouldn't touch. So maybe it is because of them.

It could be that, you'll be able to discuss with gastro Dr at the appointment. Stay away from the Ibuprofin in the meantime.
You might just need to have another stool test done at some point.
Try not to panic Smile.
