Question about Pneumonia

Hi I took my 9 year old DS to the out of hours doc yesterday as he had been ill for a few days and it wasn't going away. He has pneumonia so is in bed and will be for the next few days at least. His antibiotics say that he needs to have them every 8 hours. Is there anyone on here that knows if I have to take that literally ? Like most kids . he wouldn't be awake for 3 x 8 hour cycles in a day ie if he has the first one at 7am, next one at 3pm then in reality the next would be 11 when he's asleep. Ok to give it early ?. He's really not in a good way so I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Any other tips to help him feel more comfortable would be great too. He is having calpol and lots of fluids but his cough is insane!

Space the 3 doses out throughout the day. For example first thing in the morning, lunch and bedtime.

I would call your Doc and double check. I wouldn't think it would matter if he had one antibiotic a bit earlier.

Ideally the doses should be spaced evenly - it's all about keeping an even level of the antibiotics within the body. However, in real life this isn't always possible. Space the doses as evenly as possible & just do the best you can x

Ex paediatric nurse (old) here and agree with GrandmaSharksDentures antibiotics peak and drop so should be given as regularly as possible but an hour or so either way is OK. Good luck! Hope he feels better soon.
