Anyone broken their nose?

So, four weeks ago I fell and broke my nose. Due to anxiety, I was too scared to go to the hospital even though I'd knocked myself out for a few moments in the accident.

I had a doctor's appointment a week ago about my ongoing anxiety, told him about the accident and my nose, he wiggled it about (which caused me a lot of pain!), he confirmed it had been broken.

My question is my nose is now wonky with a lump on one side, throbs all the time and has a horrible scar across the bridge where I split it open. The doctor was dismissive of the misshapen state and said it would go eventually. Have any of you who have broken your nose had similar? Will it stop hurting eventually and will the lump go? And how long does it take?

It's driving me mad and I feel so stupid for not seeking medical help at the time!

Why can't they take you in and straighten it under anaesthetic? I broke mine a few years ago, when I walked into a door. I had to wait for the swelling to go down and then get it re-set. DD has broken hers a couple of times but it doesn't look any different. Could you see a different doctor?

Thanks @bouncy. I suppose I have to put my big girl pants on and go back to the doctor!

Is it a straightforward procedure to have it straightened? Will I be back home the same day?

I've broken mine 3 times now..first time not too wonky, second time very bent and third time pretty much straightened it out.

I should've gone to surgery really as I cant breath so well through my nose.

I'd say go..you need the inside checking out at least, dont be like me

If you yell the doctor upu breathing is impaired they will do a small op and straighten it up for you.
I've broken mine, ridiculously ot happened when DH was picking g apples, to be precise a 1lb apple which was the culprit. It was very high up and instead of pulling g the apple down with the picker he launched it about 12ft across the garden hitting me square in the face. He then said it looked normal....it didn't. I'm not squeamish so snapped it straight back and spent the next couple of days aligning at daily. It's not bad but you can see the break line.
Typically breaks become more prominent over time as the flesh on the nose diminishes lightly so you need to get it sorted out really. The cut mark will fade but it might not go completely. The bump can be sorted.

I've broken mine twice I think by falling over. Doubt GP will do much for me now!

Thanks for all of your replies. You've convinced me, I'll get it looked at.

@Glam - the thought of putting your own nose back has made me cringe! But I'm sorry, I did laugh that the cause was an apple! I had a turnip thrown at my head once, knocked me out! These fruit and vegetables are dangerous things!
