... if you continue to eat a bad diet.

DH bought himself a Gu cheesecake tonight, after eating half a tub of ice cream yesterday.

Also eats loads of red meat, including the fat, and cheese.

Well in that case there is a very good case for the statins. At least the GP will be monitoring him as well from time to time.

I don't know if my diet is that bad I need to take statins. I could eat mega heathy and get it possibly down. But I know I couldn't continue that kind of diet forever... in my case high cholesterol could be genetic. I had cholesterol already at 30 years old and I was thin.

The amount of cholesterol in your diet and the amount of cholesterol in your blood are very different things.

The body tightly regulates the amount of cholesterol in the blood by controlling its production of cholesterol.

When your dietary intake of cholesterol goes down, your body makes more. When you eat larger amounts of cholesterol, your body makes less. Due to this, foods high in dietary cholesterol have very little impact on blood cholesterol levels in most people.

However, in some people, high-cholesterol foods raise blood cholesterol levels. This tendency is considered to be genetic. Statins will help keep levels down.
