Ovulation Pain

My 16 yr old daughter woke us up in the middle of last night with sharp pain in her lower right hand side of her abdomen. This came out of the blue with no other symptoms. It hurt to press down on it and she had some pain in her back and top of her leg. I gave her some paracetamol and worrying about appendicitis, moved into her bedroom to see how it went. The pain subsided and she went back to sleep and no issues at all this morning. I’ve heard of ovulation pain and shes’s exactly mid way through her usual cycle, although sometimes this can be a bit irregular which I think is usual for teenagers. Could this be ovulation pain, does anyone have experience of this?

Seems to be ok still so I’m guessing not appendicitis.

I had the most awful stomach pains earlier this year mid cycle, went to a&e in the end and suspected appendicitis, they later deduced it was the follicular cyst (I think!) that the egg erupts out of and this is apparently normal, pain due to fluid in abdomen which is then reabsorbed. They couldn't tell me why it had caused so much pain on that one occasion. I had it again to a lesser degree a month or two later then nothing. Could be that if it's subsiding now.

@hettysdrawers thanks, does sound similar to my daughters pain. Was so close to taking her out to A&E. Will see if it happens again next month. Why do these things always happen in the middle of the night!

I know.. at least a&e is quite quiet then (depending on where you live). I'm not normally an a&e goer but it was so bad I couldn't stand up straight, like a stabbing aching if that's anything like your daughter experienced. I did feel a right idiot when they finally 'diagnosed' me Blush

I’d not heard of it before so unless people are made aware of it they’re going to keep getting people turning up at a&e!
