How does anxiety effect you?

TubbyMcTat77 · 06/11/2019 12:56

For me it's:
Feeling nauseous
Needing the toilet urgently
Sweating and hotness
Prickly feeling on my chest and hands
Heavy feeling in my chest

Currently not on medication as it isn't constant but seems to be flaring up more and more lately, especially when I am in places or situations out of my usual routine. Sometimes breathing and distraction techniques can help, other times not so much.

Just wondering how other people experience and deal with anxiety?

I get awful health anxiety - my symptoms are:
Numb ish feeling inside my shoulder
Fuzzy head
Fear of doom and the worst health wise
Strained eyes feeling sometimes
I have previously had tingling or skin burning patches

Everything comes and goes daily but I've had 3 big overloads of the anxiety in nearly 10 years, Seen a neuro and gp countless times and had a brain scan and blood tests and everything has always come back fine so seen as my big fear is MS they say my brain and anxiety is creating these symptoms - sometimes hard to believe when your so scared of something :( I'm awaiting thyroid bloods atm - also just started medication to try and help !

Right shoulder pain, breast pain, neck pain and headaches which brings on more stress as I think there is something wrong with breast, head, neck etc

Increased heart rate
Sweaty, very sweaty
Burning up
Light headed
Loss of vision
Fainting

This currently happens when I leave my house, with zero triggers! I'm 32 weeks pregnant and have had to make the decision to go on medication

Often needing the loo!

Does anyone else find themselves being superstitious with anxiety? I was going to start a thread on that but saw this thread. What I mean is "if I don't worry about that thing that might happen, then it will!"

I feel sick. I can lose over a stone in weight pretty quickly when I have a flare, but after some CBT I can now train my brain and force myself to eat, even if it's just small bits. I also have badly broken sleep, waking several times a night, tossing and turning and taking ages to drop off. It really is a terrible illness which is underestimated IMO.

Don’t want to hijack your thread op, but I have some of them symptoms you explain and I’m now wondering if it’s anxiety? I have had an overwhelming feeling like something bad is going to happen which I can’t pin point as to what? I’m wondering if it’s anxiety now? I get a stomach churning feeling most mornings thinking something bad will happen but don’t know what!

@tobee that is me! I’m seriously wondering if it’s proper anxiety I have at the minute! I’m drained but put it down to colds etc!

Physical symptoms. Not all the time but that's what beta blockers are for because you just take them when you need them.

Yes the feeling of impending doom is a symptom of anxiety.

Mostly for me it's contstant rush of adrenaline - increased heart rate, feeling of panic and fear, heat rising through my body, shaking.
Lump in throat when trying to eat.

tobee - I think I know what you mean. Hypervigilance.

Always tired but can't stay asleep past 4/5 am
Can't concentrate on important stuff because I'm worrying about 10 other random things
I often jump to the worst case scenario which has stopped me doing things I really want to do.
I've also had palpitations and chest pains but I put that down to being peri-meno. I'm not so sure now.
Currently on ADs which are helping with the sleeping and that awful sick feeling of dread. On the waiting list for CBT.

I'm having my annual routine blood test next week. I'm trying to be "don't worry until there something to worry about" but the anxiety creeps in. Every flipping year! Confused

That's another thing Potplant. Everything is worse at night.

I did find cbt helped me a lot with anxiety.

I'm starting CBT next week, hoping it helps! Physical symptoms start to get so worrying and then I struggle to believe the doc that it's nothing !

Good to hear.
I've already had the initial triage appointment which helped me a lot, just talking about all the mad stuff I'd been thinking and she didn't laugh me out of the room or tell me to get a grip which was really helpful. I know when I've expressed concerns about things to people before they say 'oh you worry too much, that'll never happen' which doesn't make anything better.

Hello 👋🏻

So I'm currently extremely anxious, borderline panic. The biggy for me is the sickness and here's the key... travel sickness tablets. Yes really! Stops the nausea so I don't throw up and panic (or is that panic and throw up 🤷🏼‍♀️).

Both Grin Mumma.

When I did cbt it was an nhs course with about 8 of us. It was good to be in a group, although we had different problems, you felt less isolated.

Health anxiety for me too. It sucks!

Report
Potplant · 06/11/2019 18:21

Not particularly related to health. I'm far more likely to brush off health concerns until my arm is falling off.
However the DCs are half an hour late home and I'm climbing the walls.

@Trustmeimamidwife @tobee @howdy31 what illnesses do you worry about or is it everything?

Report

@TubbyMcTat77 I'm on a low-Ish dose of slow release beta blockers. Although I take them daily, I believe you can take them as and when anxiety occurs/is likely to occur. Maybe you could find out from your gp?
