Diahorrea again.....

about 3 (maybe 4) weeks ago my ds (nearly 7 months) got over 2 weeks of diahorrea - he was sick for 2 days aswell and his illness progressed to a high fever and he was given anti biotics (the doctor's said it must have been a viral infection). He now has severe diahorrea again (for the past 4 days). He is doing it about once every 2 hours - it is like water at the moment and he needs a change of clothes every time we change his nappy. I feel like it's my fault maybe as I do not sterilise his bottles. I breastfed until 3 months and then sterilised for about 3 weeks but decided to stop after reading a few threads on MN about not needing to sterilise. I'm also worried about his immune system. My dh took ds to the go today and he said he understands our concern and if he still has diahorrea on Monday he can refer him to a Pediatricion at the hospital for some tests. Or am I just worrying too much and is it 'normal' for a baby to have so much diahorrea like this? My dd never had diahorrea as a baby. I did streilise her bottles until 12 months. Sorry for going on, it's getting me down today and in the back of my mind I'm wondering if it's my fault.

Oh poor ds and poor you. If I were you I'd start sterilising again simply b/c you won't beat yourself up. Is your ds on solid food?

don't panick, sound like your doing every thing u can, just make sure he has lots of fluids. recommendations of when to stop sterilising and when to do this and that all can change between one sibling and the next, definately one generation and the next - so who's right? who knows? You can't blame yourself, think about it, everything they pick up and put in their mouth is not sterile, lot of infections and illness about at the moment, I,m a childminder with 2 children of my own, and I blame the weather

We have struggled getting him to eat. He has only just taken his first tastes and actually eaten them yesterday and today. Before that he spat everything out. Very different from my dd who weaned at 4 mnths. Maybe I should sterilise again. I just wish I knew what is causing this.

We've all had colds this summer, certainly.

I'm wondering if his tummy bug could have caused a food intolerance? If the weaning is coinciding with the new bout of the bug? But maybe not if he's only just eating.

We have tried weaning on an off for a few weeks but left it for a while and started again after he got this illness. I did wonder if it was the formula though.

take a deep breath don't worry about weaning or anything else till this is sorted, often I gather from my mums that parenting is a race, and honestly there's no rush!! sounds very much like a bug of some kind to go on this long, trust your instincts cos your his mum, I remember my ds 7 years ago having similar problem for a long time, took samples to gp for analysis, worried most about fluid intake though, they catch up with food

I agree, let his tummy settle first.
