Routine mammogram 18 months after last one

I had my first mammogram (UK) at 47, was recalled to the hospital for 3D mammogram and ultrasound and no significant abnormality found so discharged. 2nd mammogram at 50 and again recalled and had further tests. The Dr could see a cyst but said no further tests required and the letter said to be seen in 3 years.

Today, I have had a routine mammogram appointment letter come and it's only 18 months since the last one. I can't speak to anyone until Monday and wondered if anyone knew why the routine appointment is so early?

TIA

I got called for routine mammogram 2 years after the previous, it was because they merged 3 GP practices and wanted to bring everybody into line so that all women had them at same time.

Thanks for replying. My GP's is a two centre practice so maybe that could be it.

Where I’m from the protocol for cysts is 6 months, 6 months, 6 months, 12 months then routine. Not mammo’s but ultra sounds.

Have you moved or changed gp?

No, same GP and first 2 mammograms were 3 years apart. The letter from radiology after the cyst said I would be seen routinely in 3 years.

I really want to avoid having the screening mammogram early if I don't need to.

Give them a ring and enquire. I don't think the screening programme do early recalls? So it'll either be an admin error or some change with the order of areas they're doing.
