Pain in left hand side of lower abdomen

Hello ladies,

I wondered if anyone has experienced the same thing, I think I'm constipated but not 100% sure. I've had recurring pain in my lower left side of my abdomen for 4 days and it's really uncomfortable. I have managed to pass movements but not an awful lot and the pain hasn't gone away it's pretty uncomfortable. Has anyone been in the same situation. Was it just this or could something else be wrong? I don't want to bother the doctors if it's just constipation.

Sounds likes constipation but there is nothing wrong with going to the doctor with it. I would get checked.

Dulcolax might help, I would also think what you ate before this started. Spinach and prune smoothies usually help and lots of water.

OP is there any possibility you could be pregnant? I ask as lower left side abdominal pain can be an indicator of an ectopic pregnancy.

Thank you

I am working tomorrow in a shop on my own so nervous about taking a laxative while alone at work.

My husband had the snip 9 years ago so hoping that ectopic pregnancy isn't a probable cause.

Could it be Diverticulitis? Or pancreatis?

How do you feel in yourself?

Have you ever had a scan in the past? Is your appendix on the right side do you know?

Mines on the left....

Ovarian cyst? I get them on alternate sides and they can feel like a dull ache, discomfort lying on my side to sleep or random sharp pains

Any changes to your normal bowel habits are worth checking out with your GP. More than likely it's nothing serious, but we can't examine you over MNWink

Try a glycerine supository should help with constipwation within 20 minutes.

Thank you for all your comments.

I am not sure about my pancreas tbh I think I will try and get a doctors appointment, I think I'll do a cheap pregnancy test too jus to rule that out. I feel ok to be honest but the pain is so uncomfortable, especially when I stand up after sitting at work for some time. I am trying natural laxatives to see if that helps while at work as I have an appointment at 10am then work at 11.30pm till 10pm so I need to hold off on using laxatives until I come home. Thankfully I'm off tomorrow.

So I took a test I am not pregnant, I have now taken laxatives and haven't noticed much of a difference in the pain. I couldn't get a doctors appointment for a few weeks but am calling up daily to see if there are any cancellations.

Do get yourself seen OP. It sounds like this is unusual for you so you won’t be wasting anyone’s time. Maybe keep a symptom diary while you wait.

In the meantime, softening laxatives, lots of fluids and paracetamol (as opposed to e.g. ibuprofen) may help with symptoms. I am not a medic but this has been the advice received in my (extensive!) patient experience of LLQ abdo pain. Hope you get sorted soon.

I still feel something in my lower left hand side I am thinking it could be a cyst as laxatives didn't change a thing and I am not pregnant. I am hoping I get a good doctor on Tuesday as there is one in or surgery who makes me feel like a fool

Gall stones

Gallbladder is upper right under your ribs.

Lower left is sigmoid colon. It's entirely possible what you can feel is the contents of your impacted bowel. Seeing as you have symptoms that match that.

But could of course be other things.

I have similar pain it's triggered by eating certain foods, fats being the main culprit.

Thanks for your concern, the pain has eased laxatives made very little difference and my period has come 6 days early which I told the doctor when I was there today. I am already knew I had severe anemia so have to have another blood test and take in a wee test with me too. The doctor was very unsure to be honest. I have asked my husband to speak to the doc to see if his tubes have untied too to completely rule that out too.
