Exhausted all the time

If I'm exhausted all the bloody time for no real reason (sleep is ok, diet is balanced, work full time and have two teens-busy but nothing unbearable in terms of workload), what is the matter with me?!
I'm nearing 40-could it be something hormonal?
A typical day is get up, feel more tired than I did before I went to bed, drag dogs for a walk (feeling like I could fall over from tiredness), so school run, go to work where I perk up a bit until about 3pm when I have a slump), struggle through the rest of the day and evening, bed and asleep by 10.30 latest.

Has anyone had anything like that and if so what was it and more importantly what did you do to combat it?

I don't feel I can go to the GP and just say I feel really tired 😕

I'm the same, although i don't sleep well so that is the obvious answer for me I guess

Of course you can go to the GP. I did a blood test from Thriva because I can't be arsed with the hassle of getting an apointment to see GP, another appt to get blood drawn, another to discuss results. Vit D and omega fats both low, thyroid borderline. I am much better after supplementing vit D and fatty acids (prob the vit D making a difference) and will recheck thyroid in 6 months.

I was exhausted all the time and DH said I should go to the GP for blood tests. I also thought you can't go to the dr just because you are tired and told him he was ridiculous. I thought I was tired because I had a 4 year old who had almost never slept through the night and a job that was physically and emotionally draining with 13hr day shifts and 12hr night shifts. Anyway, after a while I did end up seeing my GP about something else and she agreed that I should get blood tests. It turned out I was very deficient in vitamin D. So, it turns out you can go to the dr 'just' because you are tired and it might help.

fatigue can be part of perimenopause. I would read up about it and if you think its a possobility, maybe look into a low dose of HRT

Peri-menopause could definitely be the reason, and you are not too young to be experiencing the first effects of it. This is a really good article...

Are there any other issues you're having that perhaps you've brushed aside?

I would strongly recommend going to the GP. They will likely do a blood test. It could be iron deficiency which can be treated. I felt like this, I went in for unbearably heavy periods, it turned out the two were connected.

I absolutely feel like that, I have NO energy, just feel crap & exhausted. Numerous visits to the Drs blood tests etc. VitD &B12 low B12 201, limit is 200 for injections 🙄 taking supplements, not feeling any better!

Sorry not much help, but you’re not alone.

I am tired all the time because I am anaemic. I wake up tireder than when I went to bed, have zero energy to do things other than basic stuff.
You can of course go to your gp about being tired. I went last year about headaches I was getting, despite not drinking a drop of alcohol (it was during Sober for October last year). They gave me a blood test on the Friday evening and I had a phone call Monday evening.
I am struggling with it again, despite having a Mirena fitted as they thought it was due to heavy periods, but now going to have a couple of ultrasounds to see if I have fibroids. Slightly hoping it is that and it can be fixed as I hate feeling like this.
I am trying to take as many Iron Fumerate as I can, and have been suggested to take Spatone which my stomach seems to tolerate.

Do you suffer with anxiety at all? I had a surge of my anxiety recently and I felt utterly exhausted and run down.

I do suffer with anxiety and have had a bit of depression in the past but I'm actually ok in both those fronts at the minute.
I take iron supplements daily as I've had low ish iron in the past.
I've just never felt this heavy and tired over such a long time before.
I will make an appointment and see what's what.
Thankyou pp for link to Peri article. Might be something to think about.

I had a blood test and found I was hypothyroid. I had been tired for many years and never realised blood tests would find the cause. I was also Vit D deficient. So treatment with thyroxine and Vit D made a big difference. It isn't usually a simple case of the peri menopause, although deficiency and thyroid problems can accompany the peri menopause. I actually feel quite cross that so many things are pinned on the peri menopause when there can be more obvious underlying issues, such as your thyroid gland not working!!!

Another symptom of thyroid problems can be a tingling in hands and feet and numbness at extremities, heavy periods if hypo, and brain fog. You usually don't feel panic though, more a sort of exhaustion, like moving through treacle. Does that ring a bell?

Brain fog and heavy periods yes...nothing else. Though my mother has thyroid issues so there might be something in it.
GP appointment next week so we shall see...
