Excess saliva

I've just come down in the last day or two with a sore throat and generally feeling quite run down and since yesterday my mouth has been watering so much to the point it's making me nearly vomit as I'm swallowing so much saliva.

I've resorted to spitting it out but it's getting so bad I'm having to spit every 30 seconds - 1 minute.

What could be causing this? I've never had it before with a common cold...I can deal with the sore throat and slightly woolly feeling head but the excess saliva is driving me insane!

Does anyone know anything I can take or do to help it? I'm breastfeeding so can't take the normal medications. My husband went to the pharmacy this morning and they gave him simple Linctus but I don't have high hopes for it doing much as it's pretty gentle.

Many thanks

Have you had a look at your tonsils OP? Tonsillitis and quinsy can cause this.
