Basically, every now and then whilst I am eating my throat seems to close up. It's that bad it makes me feel as if I am choaking (sp?) but I am not iyswim. I am often sick with it.

Doctors said it is connetion with the IBS which seems to be caused by stress, but they never gave me anything, nor did they say how to stop it.

Any advice on it? It has become a nightmare to eat in public anywhere, as I think it might come on - which could cause it to come on!

Thanks

Could be globus - basically a reaction to stress causes the feeling of a lump in the throat. This in itself causes you stress and the feeling gets worse. It can also be triggered by worrying about eating / choking in front of others, which happens in your case.
I presume you have had either an endoscopy or barium swallow to rule out any physical things which could make it worse.

Usually it will resolve given time, but you may need to learn some relaxation exercises to use before eating to prevent it happening. The less it happens, the less you will worry about it happening, so it doesn't occur as often.
