Now this is a weird symptom

So last night I was sitting watching a film and became aware that my lower lip was twitching away on the left side only. Wobbling like crazy. It wen on for about an hour (then I went off to bed).

I forgot about it this morning (although my lips were very dry today) and it’s started pinging again (not as bad as before).

What the hell could that be? A nervous twitch?

My eye twitches occasionally. I read somewhere that this might mean a magnesium deficiency, but whether that’s true I have no idea.

Stress.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD Thu 10-Oct-19 17:29:45

Yup could be stress. I can’t quite juggle as much stress as I used to! It’s pretty full on from all sides and a family friend died this morning so I’m feeling quite sorry for myself.

Of well at least it’s not a stroke!

My eyelid does this occasionally. I think my lip has done it too, just like you described. I just put it down to s random twitching nerve.

Tiredness and stress! DO NOT GOOGLE!

One of my bum cheeks gets a random twitch. It's bloody annoying.

lljkk Thu 10-Oct-19 19:48:42

I thought it was normal enough to get random twitches anywhere any time. It's only weird if it happens frequently.

Silvercatowner Thu 10-Oct-19 20:06:39

It's just one of those 'weird things bodys do'.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD Thu 10-Oct-19 20:07:38

Really? I’ve not had it before! Thought I was having a stroke!

FarquarKumquatsmama Thu 10-Oct-19 20:17:45

So I had this next to my eye and my optician told me it was a magnesium deficiency. On his advice, I got some high dose magnesium from the pharmacy and it cleared up.

Don't dismiss the stroke - tingling lips could easily be a TIA.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD Thu 10-Oct-19 21:16:06

TIA?

AwdBovril Thu 10-Oct-19 21:20:13

TIA.

It's more likely to be stress, or something like that. I get a fairly strong twitch to my left lower eyelid immediately prior to a migraine.

It can be vitamin & mineral deficiency related. Magnesium & vitamin B12 the most obvious ones. Both of these are affected by stress too & if low can make you less able to cope well with stress.

You can just buy magnesium supplements & take them, you can't take too much & high dose magnesium helps sleep, pain, your body to cope better with stress etc. Buy a good quality supplement, read reviews on amazon etc & look at charts of the different types of magnesium & see which might suits you best. Magnesium Malate for example can help energy too.

I'd ask your GP to check your B12 & vitamin D levels too.

Yes, stress or tiredness.

I have injections of denosumab every 6 months and it can alter B12 absorption - I was told to look out for tingling or twitching around the lips and to get back to them if this happened.

Maybe your GP could do some blood tests for you?

ChardonnaysDistantCousin Fri 11-Oct-19 10:23:37

Watch our for magnesium side effects if you try it, it’s a laxative.

Gwenhwyfar Fri 11-Oct-19 21:17:03

Chardonnays - that's why I take magnesium!
You can play around with how much you take though.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin Fri 11-Oct-19 21:30:07

that's why I stopped taking it. grin
