Foggy brain and memory loss concerns

I’ve not been feeling right for a few weeks now, extreme tiredness, dizzy spells and spells of blurry vision. Strange feeling in my head almost like an ache but not a headache, that makes no sense I know! My head feels like there is a thick heavy fog where my brain should be. I don’t feel ‘with it’ at all and my memory seems to be getting worse. For example, I’ll stand up to get something, walk into the room and completely forget why I’m there, a few times dp has given me dinner and I’m staring at it and I’ve completely forgot what it’s called. I even recently forgot the date of my own sons birthday. Generally after several minutes to hours later I will remember what I had forgotten but I'm finding it distressing.

For background I’m 34, I take citalopram for depression which has been controlled for several years no other medications. I was tested for iron levels and thyroid approximately 6 months ago for an unrelated reason all fine. I went gluten free around 1 month ago for IBS (negative for coeliacs) and general stresses of life are the same as usual.

I’m scared to go to my gp for some reason 😔

I think this sounds like low iron or low thyroid or low b12 or something like that. I would get all of them tested before I panicked.

Sorry you’re felling like this. It Could be stress related. go to your doctor and ask their opinion. I would also ask to get a blood test for B12 deficiency and vitamin D. Ask for the levels too because the NHS has a stupidly low threshold for healthy levels x

Definitely vitamin deficiency B12 maybe others. Have a check up and don't worry yet. Smile

You do need to go see your GP, OP. It could well be a deficiency, but sometimes the symptoms can become permanent if they're left untreated for too long, so it really is better to pick these things up early.

Thanks for the replies, I wanted to cry when I opened my eyes this morning as I just knew my head felt wrong. I’m hoping it’s something as simple as vitamin deficiency as I’m convincing myself I’ve got a brain tumour or something. I think because I had full bloods done fairy recently then deficiencies would have been picked up. I will make an appointment.

Also talk to your GP about your AD level. I started sertraline for PND and had to stop. I went to the GP with concerning memory symptoms, feeling fuzzy and writing words repeatedly in the wrong order. Turns out my ADs had started working a bit too well and I was exhibiting symptoms of mania.

Your symptoms very much sound like Labyrinthitis to me, look that up. Or possibly Migraine Induced Vertigo. For either of these, symptoms are quite similar and unfortunately very hard to diagnose. You can certainly be in a migrainous state and not feel any actual pain.

Definitely get a blood test for iron, B12 and thyroid.

They need to look for specific deficiencies. Another blood test will be necessary.

I had those symptoms with low ferritin and b12

Thyroid problems often coincide with vitamine and mineral problems (D, the Bs, iron, selene etc.)
Ask for a thorough test of your thyroid levels not only the obvious ones. My brain started to work again.

Another and rarer thing: Lyme's desease (first hand experience with my dad) went back to normal after antibiotics.
