Weight dropping rapidly, worried!

Hello,
I wondered if anyone else has or has had this issue. For the last few months I've been losing weight without trying but have been under a lot of pressure and stress. Constantly running around here there and everywhere with lots on my mind. I eat normally and am not cutting back on calories so that's why I don't understand the weight loss?! This last fortnight my weight has plummeted another 7 pounds and my clothes are baggy! It's worrying me. Has anyone else lost weight quickly like this? My BMI is 18.

Overactive thyroid? I'd go and see your gp.

Significant weight loss with no obvious explanation is always worrying. You should definitely see your GP urgently. Are you aware of any other symptoms at all? Discomfort/pain, change in bladder/bowel activity, tiredness/energy levels?

Hope you're okay OP.

OP, this happened to me (I lost 10 kilos over 2 months) and finally went to the GP when my BMI had dropped to something really horrific, like 13.5! I had blood tests galore, but literally never discovered anything. In the end, the GP decided it was probably just a weird reaction to some kind of virus and I had to drink loads of milkshakes! Eventually I got back to a normal weight, but it took a while.

I think, go to the GP to put your mind at rest and do appropriate investigations, but I'm trying to be reassuring really, that even though this feels very alarming it may actually be nothing x

Second the thyroid suggestion. Any other symptoms?

Are you sure you're eating enough? You mention running round and being stressed - I have no appetite when I'm stressed and quite often put myself last so forget to eat.

I lost weight when I had an overactive thyroid but not that much that quickly. What's your resting heart rate like? Do you have diarrhoea? My heart rate had doubled and I was going to the loo about five times a day by the time I was diagnosed. I also had three minor car crashes (the only crashes I've ever had) in the space of a few months, as my brain was whirring. It should be easily identifiable by blood tests, and the results are usually through very quickly. Get tested.

However there may be something gut related. I take it you've not noticed any blood in your stools?

Maybe a bit obvious but have you been tested for diabetes?

Diabetes or Addison’s? Any other clues?? Whatever it could be, i really think you should discuss this with your gp.
