Any like to diagnose my odd tummy?

I'm a healthy 52 year old with no significant medical history except a c section 21 years ago.
For the last few months I've woken up in the night and when I'm lying on my right side and turn over I can feel a dragging feeling and have to hold my tummy to turn over.
I don't feel it in the day but sometimes do when I'm swimming.

I really don't want to bother my GP, I've prodded about and can't feel anything.
Any possible ideas?

I'm not a doctor, but I love a good medical thread so let's see. Is it just a pulling sensation when you are lying down and turning over? It it actually pain? Sharp or dull, which side, how long does it last?

Any other symptoms when upright - cramping sensation, an ache under your right ribs? Is it more noticeable after eating? Has your appetite changed, have you lost any weight without trying? Been feverish?

So it's a pulling when I turn over, if I turn over without holding my tummy it does hurt. Dull ache rather than sharp pain. Right side only.

No other symptoms really but I can feel an almost stitch like pain now, sat on the sofa.

This is exactly the same sensation I experienced when I had a a large ovarian cyst. Happily, it turned out to be benign but you don't want to risk it!

Hopefully, the doctor will send you for an ultrasound scan from which they can tell quite a bit - it's a very quick and easy procedure as you will know from your pregnancy - and if there is anything amiss, the earlier you catch it the better. Worst case scenario and you need it removed, I had a full hysterectomy and ovary removal this year and it wasn't half as bad as I was expecting. Techniques and anaesthetics have moved on hugely and although the recovery is fairly long, it really hasn't been as bad as I was expecting (and I am the world's biggest wimp when it comes to hospital and doctors). So, please can I give you a gentle nudge to phone your doctor?

Oh if it's under your right ribs then that is probably too high to be ovary related, but I am not a doctor either!

Yes, it was an ache when I rolled over and it hurt in certain positions when (ie I was leaning on it) and very latterly it hurt when sitting at my desk (but it was very large by then).

That position does sound more ovarian but appendix is a possibility too!

I wondered about both ovarian cyst and appendix. I've had a large cyst and a huge appendix removed. At a similar time, but the cyst was taken out first and I still had that kind of pain until my appendix was taken out.

Because my appendix was so big and it was growing retrocaecally (sp?) it didn't present typically. So I spent along time being told I was imagining it....

Please bother your GP

That may give you a blood test and or scan.

Ovarian cancer (I had this) is only one possibility but if it were that, you want to find it ASAP

Another vote for ovarian cyst. Glad you have a GP appointment. Be aware that they may ask to put their fingers into your vagina for a bi-manual examination.

@BlackNoir thank you for asking. The GP was lovely and didn't think I was wasting her time.
I'm going back on Monday for a blood test, to see the GP who specialise in Gynae and will be referred for an ultrasound.
I think she thinks it might be an ovarian cyst or possibly an inflamed appendix.

I had the same sensation with a huge ovarian cyst too. It was benign
