Breast Cancer tests

I've got breast cancer tests next week and I'm starting to panic. My breasts have always been incredibly lumpy but I've found 2 more distinctive ones which feel a bit different.
I have a mammogram next week and possibly other tests.
I have no experience of any of this and I don't want to tell people as it'll probably be nothing and I don't want to worry anybody.

What can I expect? Will I get results on the day?

Hi OP, I could have written your thread! So sorry you’re in this position too. I’ve got the breast clinic on Monday as I found two/ three nodule type lumps (not painful but rubbery) in my breasts which I took to the GP. I’m breastfeeding which complicates things but have always had really lumpy fatty feeling breasts.

Hand holding! Flowers

I had this last week and received some great advice here - this was my thread in case it is of any use to you, OP.

Hoping everything is OK Flowers. Waiting for the appointment is horrible.

I’ve been a bit up and down to be honest- veering from convincing myself it’s nothing to bring sure I’ve got cancer. How are you? What day is your appointment? Will be thinking of you.

They have a 3d mammogram machine in the breast clinic (as opposed to the screening mammograms). When I went they told me it was a suspicious area on left breast that had shown up on screening mammogram. Had 3d mammogram and waited. Called in to ultrasound room where doctor came in and said they had found a "dense" area on screening mammogram but having reviewed the new 3d mammo the new images were reassuring. She did a (surprisingly gentle) beast exam and then an ultrasound of the dodgy area which was uncomfortable but not unbearable. She said there was a number of small cysts and one larger one but confirmed nothing to worry about, no need for biopsies and was discharged.
Whole thing took about 1.5 hours. I think had I needed a biopsy and treatment plan obviously it would have been a longer wait.

Thanks blue, I’m so relieved that the appointment has come round. The waiting is unbearable. I’ll let you know what happens.

Hope you’re bearing up - not too long to wait now x

Just thought I’d update as promised -saw consultant who examined me and then sent me for ultrasound. Breast tissue all looks absolutely fine phew. I have “nodular tissue” from breastfeeding but nothing to worry about. The Consultant was extremely kind and confirmed I was absolutely right to come which was validating.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow! Definitely take a book, I was there 4 hours. Let me know x

Thanks. Luckily it was absolutely fine. Had examination and then ultrasound which they said looked fine. Took around 3 hours. Lots of waiting around! He offered to do biopsy but as he and his ultrasound colleague both said they thought there was nothing sinister I opted not to. Thanks for your support.

You take care too.

Just out if interest, did you go to the appointment with anyone? I was the only one by myself at mine.

I went on my own too and was the only person in the room not with their partner. My husband would have come if I’d asked him but he didn’t offer (because of work but also because he is very laid back and was convinced there was nothing for me to worry about.) I did think though that if it had been bad news imagine how awful to receive that news alone and then have to drive home etc. Sort of wish he’d offered.

Did you go on your own out of choice?
