UTI's natural remedies?

FlapJackered · 26/08/2019 18:37

I think I am getting the start of a UTI, I have never had one before and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to naturally stop it getting worse and get rid of it?
I am trying to drink lots of water.
Thanks in advance!

I have interstitial cystitis which is chronic and marshmallow root pills help.

Just keep drinking, flush it out! Cranberry juice is good too

Banging your head against a wall, screaming into pillows... but yes both the things the pp’s said help. Hope you don’t get one OP.

I find I get them when I’m run down and anxious so get to bed and try not to think about it x

Lots of water to flush it out.
Cranberry juice.
Coconut water also really helps.

I drink loads of all of the above when I feel an UTI coming and most of the time, they help to ward it off.

A teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda / baking powder stirred into a glass of water really helps with the pain - it helps to neutralise the acidity.
Hold your nose while drinking as it tastes foul though!

Vitamin c tablets ( the ones you out in water) and cranberry tablets.

I also drink actimel everyday as someone told me that would help and so far so good.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. Unfortunately it is worse today. 🙁
How long would you leave it (and try home remedies) before going to the doctor?

Get to the GP ASAP. Mine gave me a good humoured bollocking for leaving it. Call the surgery, ask if you can bring a sample up for a dip test. Delay can let it get to your kidneys which is much harder to treat.

What is your pee looking like?

Go to gp first thing tomorrow and bring a sample. Left untreated, a uti can travel to kidneys and cause further illness.

Omg this was me last night. I drank water and cranberry juice constantly thinking I could flush it out. My mum gave me potassium citrate which eased the pain (assume it neutralised the acidity or something) but today it got much worse and I was in agony. Went to gp and urine full of everything bad apparently. Anti biotics work really quickly so definitely recommend going first thing, and as a PP said take in a urine sample with you.

Go to your doctors. I have a history of recurrent UTI's and home remedies don't work fully. They are great at preventing but once you have one then you need antibiotics. Go to your doctor and they can confirm and prescribe as needed.

It'll make you feel so much better

Don’t leave it. The longer you leave it the longer it will take to shift it. Go and see the gp and get some antibiotics.

Don't wait. Go to a walk in centre if there's one near you. You need antibiotics asap

See GP, if the UTI has taken hold, you will need antibiotics.

Avoid cranberry juice, drink lemon barley water as strong as you can stand it. d-mannose powder has worked well for me. I have been much better for UTI since I started taking d-mannose powder twice a day.

Thanks everyone. I will call the GP tomorrow if it is still bad.

@MrsBertBibby pee is almost clear with slightly green tinge as I have been drinking loads of water.

@Savoretti oh no, sorry to hear you're in the same boat. It's horrible! If you don't mind me asking did you have a sample pot or did you use something else? I don't have any sample pots, but I am guessing I can do that at the doctors before the appointment?

Needs to be proper cranberry juice not cranberry juice drink.

Savoretti · 27/08/2019 19:48

@FlapJackered I went to the surgery and got a specimen bottle as it’s v close. Can get at chemist too but probably doesn’t matter what you take it in really.
Mine was still v cloudy even after drinking loads for 24 hours...

My urologist told me cranberry juice can actually aggravate once you have a UTI. Can help if taken consistently as a preventative though.

Antibiotics are the only thing that shifts mine.
