Bruises leg after skateboarding accident

Hi

My 17 old year daughter fell off her skateboard on Thursday. Leg is still like this today and around the scab is still swollen and numb. Is this normal? The scab has split open and is weeping yellow fluid too.

I broke my foot recently and the bruising was like that for a good week or so and it's still numb now.
Can she walk on it still? Has she had an X-ray?
The yellow liquid sounds like it could be infected? Keep an eye on it, she may need antibiotics.

Hi

Thank you.

She can walk, but it is painful.

It's difficult to see in the photo, but there is a lump which hasn't gone down.

It is hot too.

The bruise is still getting larger.

Ouch! Poor thing. The bruising looks could be normal for a big fall, it will take a while to go away and change colours as it does. Though it could be a sign something's broken, especially if it's been getting worse or hurts to walk.

Swollen, numb, weeping scab sounds like it might be infected.

I think a trip to the doctors is needed to check.

Wow, that’s spectacular.

I’d say GP or walk in centre tomorrow if there’s leaky pus, unless she becomes unwell/it starts tracking before then or your gut feel is that something’s not right. How much movement does she have in it?

Sorry, we have super bright lights which seem to be bleaching the colour of the bruise, lol.

Ooh yeah I can see the lump. That looks exactly the same as my foot looked (crush injury, 2 fractured bones) I needed 2 courses of antibiotics as it got infected.
She may have cracked a bone under there. I think she should see someone tomorrow, have you got a minor injuries near you? They might want to X-ray and they can look at the weeping too.

Ooo, I hope you recovered quickly.

I'll see if it's worse tomorrow and take her to the GP.

I'll compare photos of it.

BTW, how did you break your foot?

Still can't walk on it, 3 weeks later 😩 which is why I'm on here so much.
We were clearing out the garden and something very very heavy fell on it.
Keep an eye on your Dd and if she gets a temp or the redness spreads get her in quick.
Good luck and keep us updated 🍀

If you are worried go to A&E, minor injuries or your GP.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. How awful.

I fell down the stairs in February and my ankle still isn't right. Couldn't walk on it for a month - I feel your pain xx

The bit near the scab where there's a lump and more bruising looks sinister. I'd get that checked.

It's bloody awful isn't it?!

How's your dd's leg today? Did you go to the GP?

Oooooh if she couldn’t bend her knee I’d say possibly broken bone - my knee bruising has been like that and it is broken but I can’t bend

🙄😂

Hi

I popped into the pharmacy to see if it warranted a GP appointment.

She was impressed with the bruising and said yes, the yellow could be an infection even without pus.

We saw the GP this afternoon, and she too was impressed with the bruising. Gave it a few presses and said no broken patella. The numbness is because it is swollen, no infection but come back if it starts to go red and yucky. The bruising could last 6 weeks and still get bigger.

Thank you for everyones help.

@FurnitureAndBackgammon Hi, hope your foot feels better soon xx
