Strange bitter taste and feeling in mouth for a week

Otherwise a normal healthy person, for the last week I’ve had a weird feeling in my mouth with a bitter taste which nothing I’ve tried has got rid of

Even strong flavours like my morning black coffee doesn’t taste right.

Has anyone had this and can give an suggestions of what I can do?

I had something similar - kind of a metallic taste? Turned out I needed a filling and it went away once I had it.

Are you pregnant? This was one of my first symptoms. Everything tasted hideous.

Are you pregnant? That was my first thought.

Otherwise - could be thrush? Is there a white coating on your tongue? It's meant to be rare in adults but I get it whenever I eat too much sugar.

I had this after eating pine nuts. I think I googled it and it's called pine mouth. Have you had pine nuts or pesto maybe?

I had this and worked out it was caused by eating Chinese pine nuts. It was horrible and is a recognised phenomena, might be worth googling if you have eaten anything which could have contained them.
I think some virus infections can also temporarily affect your sense of taste too.

I had an old mercury filling break down a few years ago, it caused a horrible taste in my mouth a bit like petrol fumes and burning plastic. If it doesn’t go away I’d see a dentist.

I had this when I needed a filling. Also my friends first pregnancy symptom was a metallic taste in her mouth..

I don’t think I could be pregnant as I just finished my period yesterday. Although it did seem like a weird one like it never got properly started but there was one day where I needed pads.

I do feel very nauseous.

I keep checking my mouth and can’t see any coating or discolouration.
It doesn’t feel itchy and sore like I’d expect with thrush.

I have no fillings so no mercury in there

I haven’t had any pesto or pine nuts recently but do love them normally and haven’t had any reactions before

The only thing I can think of is I ate some pineapple last week which gave me a tingly sensation in the mouth (like it sometimes does) but I’ve never had a weird taste last for a week

Maybe there’s something viral going on inside that’s not making itself known other than this weird symptom

I do feel a bit lazy and lethargic compared to normal

Pregnant. Do a test!

I’ve only just finished my period.
I think I’m only nauseous because I haven’t eaten yet and had a berroca

They can sometimes give you a funny nauseous feeling?

I'm going with pregnant because I'm pregnant and the bad taste in the mouth is the bane of my existence right now...and nausea comes with it because it's a sign of excess acid in the stomach

Pregnant.

Weird period that never got going was my implantation bleeding. Test!

Another vote of pregnancy here too! I had implantation bleeding when I was about 5 weeks which could easily have been mistaken as a light period if I hadn’t already had a positive test. Think you should probably do a test then at least you can rule it out.

I had a period when I was first pregnant. Test!!! 😂

I was quite sure I was but pg test kept coming back negative until about 3 or 4 weeks after my weird period. Takes a while for my HCG levels to come up apparently.

I also think you're pregnant. This was my first symptom.

Last time I was pregnant I seem to remember a weird taste but it was more metallic than this.

It can’t have been implantation surly?
I had no cramps at all. It was like 5 days of light spotting with 1.5 days of low to medium flow. That’s too much for implantation?

My mouth tasted odd and felt like my breath smelled last Friday and Saturday. Started stinking cold on Sunday

@milienhaus how might I know if I need a filling? Last check up was all fine but that doesn’t mean to say I don’t need one now I guess

Think you can get this with anaemia - I sometimes go anaemic in periods. But also had 'periods' when pregnant with second and bleed 10 times with first so maybe worth a test if you are trying.

We are trying but i only had my coil removed end of July so assumed I would have missed it this month

Just take a test and if it's neg then at least that's ruled out

"It was like 5 days of light spotting with 1.5 days of low to medium flow."

That was my implantation. I didn't know it at the time and cried for two days that I wasn't pregnant (three previous mcs).

I'm now 9 weeks. Test!

I'd test despite the light period - that could have been remnants of the coil hormones, irritation from the coil coming out or anything. Does seem a bit early for this cycle but if you'd ovulated immediately it could be possible. I don't know offhand what the gap would be between removal and ovulation.
