Sprained my arthritic knee!

As the title says, just after getting a diagnosis of severe arthritis in my knee I fell downstairs into the stair gate! My right leg was fine, sailed through the open gate but my left leg slammed into the rails and my full weight bent my leg!
I went to the hospital as it became more and more swollen over the next few days
Nothing broken but a sprain, advised to rest it but that I don’t need a support on it
I am working and wondered if a knee support for just the time when I am walking outside would be useful?
(I know nurse at hospital said there is no need but she said not to walk which is sadly impossible)

It’s kind of difficult to say if the hospital have said no support needed. I had a bad knee injury a couple of years ago (snapped ACL) and although I was told the same, I got myself a serious knee brace, rather than a tubi grip or similar, and it made the world of difference.
I have severely arthritic knees too and they’re giving me real bother just now, so you have all my sympathy

Judge thank you.
I walk everywhere, don’t drive and have had cellulitis in the opposite ankle for 3 years so as you can imagine this has been a real blow.

It’s lovely to have some empathy from a fellow sufferer 😊

This weather doesn’t help with arthritis, we are living barometers!
When it goes away I am convinced it has disappeared for good
The disappointment when the pain starts again is awful

Asking for help again as yes, another fall!
I am struggling as I have an injured knee on one leg and injured ankle on the other. This makes so clumsy that I tripped whilst carrying two bags. Sadly I was running an event so couldn't rest with the obvious subsequent swelling.

The pain is excruciating; I have painkillers dihydracodeine, Naproxen and paracetamol
but they aren't touching it.
I have been told by my GP to use RISE on my knee until I see Physio next Monday
Rest Ice Support Elevate.
My question is do I use support while leg is resting or elevated, or just when moving around?

Also any tips for alternative pain relief?
I use turmeric and glucosamine, some freeze gel, ginger oil

I also want to say to those with chronic pain that I don't know how you cope!
I have had osteoarthritis for 30 years but nothing like this pain, worse than labour. On a par with peritonitis and tooth abscess.

You may also want to check your turmeric for absorption. For example, forms that are hydro-soluble absorb better. Sorry to hear you are not feeling your best!
