Hi I’ve been having infections in my lower left wisdom tooth the dentist has advised having it removed . I stupidly googled it and have scared myself to death it mentions possible nerve damage , removal of bone and lip numbness . I had an upper wisdom tooth removed years ago no probs but I’ve heard lower ones are tricky
Someone please put my mind at ease

Hi, I had a lower wisdom tooth removed, that after X-ray, had to be done at hospital, due to how close the root was to the nerve running down the jaw, so was warned of possible nerve damage, but I have had no damage what so ever. I would expect the dentist to explain any risks with your specific case.

I feel for you OP. I had 4 wisdom teeth, all impacted as I have very small jaws, had the upper ones removed no trouble at all, then the right lower one after a nasty infection, but they advised me to leave the left one alone unless it caused trouble because root was too close to large nerve. Well that moment came last Christmas and oh boy, I'm not going to lie, I was in horrible pain for 2 weeks straight. But I am glad I did it as I will never suffer from them again, please don't let the fear put you off, it's just once and you will be pain free for life. Nurofen Plus is good for it, as is Difflam numbing throat rinse -and plenty of ice packs. I also found massaging around the area (not on it) with the electric toothbrush on a gentle setting helped distract from the pain. Don't go googling horror stories, I did and almost chickened out, but I'm so glad I didn't. Good luck Flowers

Thankyou for your reply, I'm dreading it as it is impacted and I'm scared of nerve damage but my dentist took an Xray & didn't mention a possibility of this happening but he's a new dentist the practice my previous one left so maybe that's why I'm feeling more anxious
