My son has been complaining of tummy troubles for the last approx 6 weeks and says his tummy is sore and he is having bouts of diarrhoea and feeling dizzy. I was vaguely aware of this and he mentioned it again tonight before dashing out the door. He seems well in himself but mentioned he would see the GP if it carries on this week.
I have health anxiety having been diagnosed with Coeliac and breast cancer and numerous other health problems. Now I am feeling really anxious that something terrible is wrong with him and feel so scared.
I don't know if I can help but didn't want to leave you without a reply. Diarrhoea can be worrying but as you have coeliac disease, there's a fair chance that if there is something wrong, that could be the cause. Do encourage him to see the GP but remember that coeliac disease would be very manageable. I've had it for several years and then my niece was diagnosed more recently.

Yes, I understand that Coeliac manageable and it might be that. He is bothering me on the whole as he has been taking drugs. I don't think he is now as he has stopped since leaving uni and he has no money to buy them. he is, however, drinking too much. I am out of my mind with worry.
Ah... not taking care of himself, huh? Can you go to GP, to make sure s/he gets the full picture?
(And sorry, of course you know CD is manageable.... just not something we'd wish on our nearest and dearest, I meant).

Thanks for your reply. I have had a long chat with him and he says he wants to monitor things and go to GP if he feels it's needed. He told me he is drinking only on Fri/Sats now and assures me he has learnt his lessons from the drug scene at uni and that I would know if he was on something as I would be able to tell. My feeling is he isn't taking anything. He has no cash anyway as he is not working. I also would not wish Coeliac on anyone it's terrible and took me over 10 years to get a diagnosis. However, my anxiety with his tummy troubles persists. He has had an episode this morning. Having grown kids feel too hard to cope with!
It sounds hard! At least he'll benefit from your experience though - if it's coeliac disease, he'll be diagnosed very quickly.
I guess at 21 I need to leave some decisions up to him. However, my anxiety over this is +++ to the extent I can't sleep or eat. I am going to keep quiet about it now as I know I am annoying him.
Here I am a week, later and things appear not to have changed much. He told me he has had 'normal' motions but clearly, some haven't been. He has gone to Portugal for a week to stay with a cousin. How can I get him to see the GP when he returns and could this be something serious although he appears well in himself? It's really upsetting me.
