Please help husband keep coughing fits, any thing I can get from pharmacy?

Husband has had a cough, no appetite and bunged up for almost a week. His cough has got even worse tonight keeps having coughing fits and he has finally conceded to go to the doctors tomorrow but is there anything I can get from pharmacy that has helped people? He went a few days ago and they have him day and night nurse but nothing to help sooth the cough as such.
I’m desperate and am poised to leave for the 24 hour pharmacy.

Insist the doc checks for whooping cough (blood test). It's doing the rounds atm.

Oh and in the meantime, Vicks vapour rub. Big dollop into the bath (plug in) and run the tap on hot. Shut the doors and windows in the bathroom and sit in the vapour steam.

He has had whooping cough before, we both have and he insists it’s not that but he’s going in the morning so will make sure he mentions it. Sure I have some vapour rub somewhere.

Steam inhalation. If you want to buy him something you could get him a face steamer. Or he could just breathe over a bowl of hot water with a towel over his head.

You can get plain linctus - usually made of glycerin. Doesn’t have any “active ingredients” but lines the throat. Means you can take with other medicines etc. Also honey and lemon etc. Personally find a slug of rum in it helps. Boots also do great black currant glycerin pastilles (with the strepsils but not limited like strepsils) but nowhere else seems to. I think too much glycerin upsets your stomach but never had a problem. Also maybe some deep heat or something- he might pull muscles from all the coughing. Or that might just be me.

Thanks guys ,I’ve been to pharmacy and got some cough medicine along with decent ear plugs , pharmacist was quite tickled by that request! Have administered medicine and Vicks to feet (apparently it helps and willing to try anything) just having a quick glass of wine then will get to bed and get him to doctors in morning. Pharmacist thinks possible chest infection so deffo doctors.
