DD going trekking for 10 days Canadian forests
What should I do re ticks and Lyme disease?
She'll take tick repellent but I don't know if I should be thinking about antibiotics anyway? They don't seem effective after 3 days after bite so a course while still there?? It seems not sensible but the accounts of peoples lives with Lyme disease are dreadful
It's increasingly common for ticks to carry Lyme disease
So WWYD?

Firstly Lyme disease is prevalent in the UK too, so it's not a Canada thing. Then only 2-4% of ticks csrrybthrcdiseasec(in UK but assume is quite similar). The disease normally doesn't show until a couple of weeks later and is mainly chars terised by the bull eye rash and or flu like symptoms. It's at this point that biotics need to be taken as soon as poosible. The treatment would also need to be longer than normal, a out 3 weeks.

There is no need to take antibiotics, just good health insurance and keeping an eye on feeling ill with flu like symptoms after coming home.

Thank you all
My notifications not coming through! She's going to Ontario and clothing covered in tick repellent as well as using a repellent on her skin
No idea there was a vaccination
I'll be vigilant when she's home then

When we were in Canada we used OFF! Deep Woods and stayed completely bite free all summer.
