Erythromycin not working - what to do - I am in AGONY! (tooth related so no need to get too excited)

I have a manky tooth - needs to come out but the infection has to be cleared first. It hurts so, sooooo much and I am now vomiting and having abdominal pain because of either the Nurofen, Codeine, Paracetamol or Antibiotics or all 3.

Started 4 tabs a day does of ABs on Sunday - surely they should be working a bit by now.

What do I do? Help me, I need simple instructions.

Have not taken Codeine since lunch as tummy hurts to much and I think I will vom if I do but the pain is tooooooooooooooo muuuuuuuuuuch!

Thanks.

I don't have the answer but poor you! I found a combination of paramol (from the pharmasist) and nurofen helped when I had horrific toothache.

ABs should be working by now. is it possible it's really bad gum disease and not an absess? if so lots of mouth washing and tooth cleaning will help.

either way, have you tried clove oil? and rinsing your mnouth with warm salty water?

I hate toothache.

when i had exactly what you are describing, the only thing that helped the pain was biting downon something with the manky tooth and sitting up on the sofa to sleep for most of the night. if i led down the pain got 100x worse.

i took some paramol with something else and that didnt help.

in the end i took one of my mums' morphine tablets and although it didnt shift the pain, it made me dopey enough to laugh about it then go to sleep!!

i had anti'bs, closely followed by the dreaded thrush which took my mind of it!
the anti'bs should be working by now though. did he give you strong ones?
i was given the strongest ones he could give me.

sorry, i know it's nasty. i had 4 out if that makes you feel any better!

metronidazole is good for anaerobic infections, it's really powerful stuff. Made my teeth turn a bit brown. you can't drink on it, makes you really ill. they give it to drunks to stop them drinking !!

dont use a hot water bottle because for some reason the dentist told me that this exacerbates the pain and a bag of frozen peas would be better!

i do know how you feel and the abcess I had earlier this year was soooooooooo bad I ended up in A&E on Xmas Eve begging the dr to give me something.

Emergency dentist is the only way.

poor you. I would rather be in labour than go thru that again.

I have metronizadole in the cupboard left over from when xdp had wisdom teeth out. Shall I take and jib off the Erythromycin then? Would be a bit like playing nurse but who cares when in this much pain.

Stomach pain could now be overtaking tooth pain.

My gums look okay - I've never had gum probs so not sure what to look for. I have close together teeth and a v. small jaw and this is tooth next to wisdom tooth which is also coming out because my wisdom teeth are inaccessible even with a kid's toothbrush, pretty much.

Will I be in agony if I take any kind of meds now? My stomach feels as if it is bloody angry, I don't want to annoy it further.

'spect you are all in bed so not expecting replies. Funny LL you should mention but this happened to me also when I broke my wisdom tooth in half 2 xmases ago...

Ow.

Btw, thanks for all the help. I've now switched to Metyronidazole (of my own volition) and am pain free and non vomiting. Thanks for suggesting

Ohhhhhhhhh!

We are supposed to be getting trollied tomorrow night in Mike's name. We couldn't bung an eighth in with the coffin at the crematorium so needs must...is that okay. (Leaving aside the fact that I haven't smoked since I was 22 or something and will probably keel over anyway).

I was actually think I'd just drink Champagne and not smoke....

If I left off the Metronidazole tonight would I be okay for late tomorrow?

"Consumption of alcohol should be avoided by patients during systemic metronidazole therapy and for at least 24 hours after completion of treatment"

I'm a bi concerned about your tummy pain. Where exactly is it? I took erythromycin for a tooth problem and 2 days later ended up in hospital with the beginnings of serious liver prolems. My overwhelming symptom was excruciating pain just below the rib cage. The emergency doc we called out checked for heart attack, then i ended up at A and E coz they were baffled and assumed it must be gall stones. After several tests it transpired my liver was having a major reaction to the erythromycin. it was the 4th time i'd taken them with no problems previously.
Don't want to scare you but I'd make sure you know what's causing the stomach ache. Mine was a very deep and constant, almost crushing pain. Lying down made it worse and it was too bad to be able to sleep.
